Large Coolant loss

I was about to take on a 100 mile journey and luckily(or not) within 5min my coolant light lit up and decided to eject all the coolant!!

This I have been topping up every month as I know there has been an issue... yeah, I know.

I have had the pump and thermostat done and the expansion tank replaced within the year. Once I let it cool I refilled and noticed it was pumping it out rapidly high up on the front of the block. Before I do a radiator out(replacing now anyway=old) and a full strip down and inspection im looking for causes and 'has it happened to yourself' explanations and fixes. Before I get the spanners out.

It would assist if you mentioned what model and year your car is, if its a 1.9 look at the rear of the head there is a plastic pipe fitting bolted to the rear, maybe this is the cause of your leak. Just replaced the top hose on a members 1.9 as the plastic coupling end of the hose had developed a small crack that when up to temp we spotted a small bubble of coolant appearing. All these plastic parts are now showing their age, continued heat cycles over years seems to be the cause for them failing. The connection stub at the front of the head had also snapped apart previously, that had gone hard and brittle as well and had to be replaced.
Don't condem the radiator just yet and you should be ok with a new waterpump and thermostat and expansion tank already fitted, there may be life left in the radiator. Once you fix the identified leak then a pressure test or a vaccum test on the system will conform the system is sealed or still leaking.

Its the 06 3.0si coupe N52.

Found the culprit but it looks awkward to replace, hopefully wrong? Top of the block connector sheared off leaving a bit in the hose. The hose has a tear in it just past the jubilee so that has been my constant top up problem.

According to Realoem it seems it is a push fit attachment that comes with the hose and inserts into the head with an O-ring.
I think you may need hose: 11537545890 (Hose, cylinder head-thermostat)

Yeah! you have to buy the whole hose!! There is a company that makes an aluminium connector fortunately which allows a simple reconnect.

A bespoke connector means this happens quite a lot then... and boy when it goes you know about it...

It looks like a threaded end on mine although it isn't. creates a weakness over time if that is an original part though. Im thinking there shouldn't have been a jubilee on this type of connector....someone been there before...

Not sure it's threaded? Possibly ribbed to hold on the hose?
Anyway, looks like you have a decent solution there.
I do think I'd be tempted to use a jubilee clip instead of the one shown though.
That way you can fit the adaptor first, then put the hose onto that and ensure there's no twisting stress left on the hose.

This is just a heads up to anyone changing there water pump/thermostat and expansion tank .

Get this hose changed at the same time. it is easy to replace the whole hose.

The condition of the plastic connector has literally turned to cheese and its a wonder how it survived so long.(as Colb eluded to earlier) The o-ring has expanded way past its best also.

My concern is small parts have made there way into the thermostat etc.

The part number is showing 11534518063 which differs from the parts number mentioned.

They are the same part. And real OEM does state the number you mentioned

Because you cannot buy the hose and the connector separately the hose has a part number and the hose+connector has a part number...
