Have had a set of second hand rims delivered today. They're still 16s but a more interesting style (imo). They have been powder coated black, I'm aiming for a purposely menacing look, with 40.mm drop.planned next, anyway they have had a poor coating of laquer that I want to remove, but not necessarily reapply, what is the best way of safely removing this without having to redo the colour? And is it essential that I re-laquer the wheels? Thanks.

Bit of a cheallenge in that you seem to want to remove the lacquer, but leave the powder coat?
Most domestic solvents are paint and varnish strippers so you can try one of those and hope the poweder coat resists. Frankly I doubt it.
You could lightly sand it to a smooth and secure surface then re lacquer to git it back a shine.
Pro's will strip to metal in a bath everytime.

Lacquered powder coat? Say what?
PC is much stronger than paint (especially modern water-based crap like that used on the Zed) so doesn't need such a finish....are you are they are PC or that this isn't part of the actual coating?

The guy who sold me them said the laquer coat was just to protect them from additional bad weather at the coast. It is very light blowing over cos I can almost rub it off with my finger. Just looking for a simple way of removing it without damaging the black underneath.
