Laptop & Windows 10 help

Yup windows 10 will speed it up.. but also see it you can pop an SSD drive in there. That'll transform the performance of it.
Indeed!!
Despite Windows 10 acting a bit strange with SSDs at times, it's the best you can do to revive / continue working with an older PC.
Samsung 950 pro (256/512Gb) is vfm, I might add.

I presume that if you purchased the XPS you had/have an interest in PC gaming?

Its not for gaming no, it will be a jack of all trades laptop, a bit of graphics work thrown in from time to time and instead of a desktop. My current XPS Studio has been brilliant over the past 9 years, can't fault it so have relented :) and gone for another which is the XPS 15 9560 with the 4k screen. I'd been keeping an eye on laptops generally for months but could never decide whether to move away from Windows and try and Macbook Pro. However been disapointed with reviews on the Macbooks of late with the lack of ports, out if date hardware used in them, supposidly and the ridiculous price for them for what you get. I'd narrowed it down to the Macbbook Pro 15, HP Spectre X360 and the Dell but kept coming back to the Dell. Still pricey but I'm not expecting to replace it for years to come.

I'm still getting the upgrade parts for my current XPS and will be interested to see how it performs. Its a shame I can't upgrade the graphics card which is the weak point but I think its soldered to the motherboard.

Ah I don't think the XPS 15 is configured to have the 8th gen i7 processor, is it?

I recently bought an XPS 13 with the QHD touch display - it is very, very nice.

Enjoy!

Hi Chris,

Not as yet no, I think DELL will be releasing the XPS 9570 with the i8 processor sometime this year, mine has the i7. Received the laptop from DELL this arvo and just finished setting it up, very very nice and interesting to compare to my 9 year old XPS Studio 17, the 4K screen is lovely although the touch screen won't be used much :)

Only slight disappointment are the speakers which just don't sound as good as my old XPS but the aluminium and carbon fibre keyboard deck is cool.

Tim.
