Lamin x - Query

I'm going to be restoring my cloudy headlights soon and was thinking of fitting some lamin-x afterwards for stone chip protection.

I've seen quite a few posts on other forums stating the lamin x caused cracking/crazing of the headlights. Just wondered whether many people on here have got lamin - x on their Z's and their experiences.

I have Xenons on my E85
 
Never heard of it. Once done the lights should stay clear for years , without needing further protection. Unless you plan to go off roading of course. :wink:
 
I was going to use them as well... but I never got round to doing the lens refurb... still super cloudy :lol:

I’ve not heard anything about that? I think any cracking or crazing is due to the de-clouding process? Depending on the equipment and products they used? That’s my opinion at least.
 
I applied lamin-x to my e36 new glass headlights years ago after replacing the old headlights which were pitted and cracked.
Sadly, i only got another 3 years use out of that car after i got t-boned at a junction so dont really know whether it was a worthy investment or not.

I would suggest however, that due to the shape of the zeds headlights that lamin x would be a pita to install without creases or folds as that stuff is really thick.
I would also suspect that it would contribute significantly to light diffusion and a weakening of the beam, which is why ive decided to refurb and then spray on some uv sealer.
 
I've bought a sealer for the UV protection too.

I was considering the lamin x more of a way of preventing chips/cracks from road debris as the xenons are expensive to replace if they get damaged.

You can get pre-cut lamin -x from the states. You can also buy it in the Uk but have to cut to shape which sounds like a PITA.

Just wondered if anyone on here had some fitted?

At the moment, I'm thinking of just restoring and applying a UV sealer
