It's interesting - and I remember the military lambo 4x4 too, hideous thing.
It seems that many manufacturers are these days trying to get into each niche of car, and perhaps that's partly because of the EU regulations on average emissions, but if you have a particular in-house style of design or brand identity, it just doesn't work...
The lambo and the bentley above look like their normal cars, but on stilts... ...they look arkward and out of place.
Porsche *just* managed it with the early Cayenne, the more recent ones look better.
Audi and Volvo have done ok with their 'SUV' style cars, but they haven't done anything 'crazy' - they were always 'normal' cars anyway.
Aston Martin's Cygnet looks rediculous, but they needed to make it.
I guess the extreme cars are marketing in a way - no genuine market research would suggest that a prospective Bentley buyer is looking for a 4x4 style Bentley - they are known for what they make, that is how brand identity works...
