Lambda Sensor Help!

I have the fault codes P2626 & P2414 that leads to the O2 sensor before the catalytic converter on bank 1.

Looking at the parts below, it looks like the left & right sensors are not the same part number (09 & 10) I don't know why they would be different, but it looks like they are. Can anyone put me straight as to what side is bank 1, so I don't order the wrong part! :?

10 LAMBDA PROBE BOSCH/L=1340MM 1 11787837565

Thanks,

Colin.

Bank 1 is cylinders 1-3 and Bank 2 is cylinders 4-6

Thanks for that, but is the left or right side cat (in the diagram) connected to bank 1 (cylinders 1-3)? I just looked for a picture of the manifold to find out at http://www.realoem.com/bmw/ & just get a picture of the Emission control-air pump! I guess I will have to crawl under the car to see.... hang on, how do I work out what order the cylinders run as well?

Now then, I have found a diagram of the Exhaust manifold...

part 01 Exhaust Manifold Front ZYL.1-3

Now, I would say it connects to the right hand side cat in the first diagram? So bank 1 (cylinders 1-3) are at the rear of the engine. I Think.

It's not really a case of left side or right side with an inline 6 engine for Pre-Cat o2 sensors (with a V6 engine there are left/right banks). The Lambda sensors plug in front of one another. So it's really a question of do you need a Lambda sensor for the 'front' bank or the 'rear' bank.

Bank 1 = Cylinders 1-3
Bank 2 = Cylinders 4-6

Cylinders 1-3 are closest to the front of the car (radiator side)
Cylinders 4-6 are closest to the rear of the car (firewall side)

So what you want is the sensor that plugs into the exhaust manifold at the front of the car.

Here is the diagram for your Z4M. In the diagram the manifold on the left is for cylinders 1-3 (Bank 1): http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=DU92&mospid=49422&btnr=18_0661&hg=18&fg=10

I selected an 08 Z4M Built in 05/2008 - Right hand drive for the diagram. According to this both pre-cat sensors have the same part number.

The sensor part numbers + diagram you pulled up are for post-cat (after the cat) which apparently have different part numbers. I'm assuming the reason for different part numbers is because of the length of the wires.

So in summary, from what I can see on Real OEM:
P/N: 11787540167 = Pre-Cat Sensor (for both Bank 1 and Bank 2).
P/N: 11787837564 = Post-cat Sensor for left side of vehicle (Bank 2)
P/N: 11787837565 = Post-cat Sensor for right side of vehicle (Bank 1)

I see what I have done now. I thought the cats faced the other way due to the arrow at the bottom of the diagram showing the direction of the gas flow. That's a big help. Thanks. Brilliant! :)
