Lake District info

Hello

I'm planning a couple of days in the Lake District later this month (weather allowing) in my Z4, however this is not a driving trip, more to see some great scenery, hopefully to take some decent photos and just chill out a bit.

I know very very little about the area and am hoping some of you know of some particularly spectacular places to see and photograph.

Also, any nice places to stay, preferring hotels to B&Bs, preferably with other places (bars/pubs/restaurants) within walking distance.

There's such a lot to choose from but here's a couple of places we go for great food in fab locations that also have rooms :thumbsup:

All the passes are a good walk or a even better drive - Hard Knott Pass -Wrynose Pass- Honister pass - Kirkstone pass
 
I went nearly two years ago and loved it. We stayed in Grasmere at The Wordsworth Hotel and Spa which was lovely, and had a great restaurant attached plus walking distance to some lovely pubs. In terms of things to do, one memorable walk (where I proposed :) ) was Surprise View, quite a long walk but stunning scenery at the top. We also walked around Rydal Water and did a few others. We had dinner in Ambleside at The Waterhead one evening which was really nice. We found Windermere town itself far too busy in the daytime so we didn't actually stop there.

Lance, the drive from the tourist location of Ambleside to Keswick will blow you away.

The road is great to drive with stunning Vistas & Keswick is a great stop for a bit of lunch. The list of places to see & visit however is endless, enjoy :thumbsup:
 
Hiya, when are you thinking of coming up - I love the Kirkston Pass which i drive every few months and would love another excuse to drive it :driving:

Hardknott and Wrynose is also stunning scenery but wrynnose is not for faint hearted :D (me), Honister is a great road too.

There is a Z4 meet every year in the lake district, put a search in here and read through that.
 
I can certainly vouch for Holbeck Ghyll - amazing views and fantastic food.

Also, the Drunken Duck is good for food and their on-site brewed beer:

You really need to do a bit of driving about to see the best bits. The only place where you have a lot on your door step is at Bowness on Windermere, which is the only bit of the Lake District I wouldn't recommend.

I have done Hardknott and Wrynose passes in my Discovery, but would be rather more fun in a Zed!

If you do fancy a straightforward walk/hike, follow the path up to Cat Bells - you don't have to climb too far to get some spectacular views of Lakeland and wonderful photo opportunities. :thumbsup:

well I stop at a place called the ravensworth hotel windermere good carpark at rear of the hotel . kirk stone pass is great to drive ,all over the lakes is amazing go up a couple of times a year
 
Ste is based just south of the lakes. he would be good for advice, Tom Scott too. I haven't seen either post for a while though. I go up there quite frequently. I enjoyed grizedale forest sculpture trail but it may not be your kind of thing.

I would avoid the old dungeon ghyll, its a bit crap yet very well known.
