Labour Cost at Garages

Hi,

Quick question for you guys. Looking to get some work done at a reputable specialist near me and was wondering what sort of hourly rate should i expect them to charge for labour? They have come back at a quote of £75 an hour including VAT? This seems higher than places i have used in the past but they are a 'specialist' so wondering if this was normal?

I'm looking to get some work done on the suspension - specifically front bushes and top mount. Has anyone had this done before? How long would you expect it to take?

Labour will fluctuate like most things in this country depending on your location...

So I would expect to pay more in London than in Wick.

£75 +VAT seems decent to me, I'm in Glasgow and I think my local specialist is £60... well he charges me that.... so could be cheaper or dearer - customer prices may go up or down depending on their attitude!

Haha! Oh yeah, in Milton Keynes/ Buckinghamshire sort of area. Things tend to be more expensive here!

This is the first bit of work i will need doing so will try and build up a rapport and see if i can get a discount in the future

Nice to know it's in the right sort of ballpark though! Used to let anyone work on my other car's but would rather pay a bit more now and get someone who knows what they are doing!

I'm at MK, used PCS for Ins II, £65+vat per hour, I wasn't particularly pleased with them, for my next work required I searched around and took it to Auto-Technik in Lutterworth up the M1 £45+vat per hour.

And the local BMW stealer quoted £1000 labour to fit roof motor :lol:

Hmmmmmm, it's PCS i have the qoute from. They have seemed friendly and knowledgable on the phone so far so far so may give them a go. The only other one i have seen in MK that i am tempted by is Deutsch Tech so if not happy with PCS then may go there next time.

fwiw nothing too dramatic, they quoted me to fix the roof changing the whole kit £1K+, that was obviously unecessary. Also when I went to pick the car up it was parked very close to another car and there was a nick on an alloy. Auto-Technick beat Deutsch Tech by over £200 hence me travelling to Lutterworth. I was very impressed by Auto-Technik good customer service etc and they will be doing any significant jobs on the car including service.
