Kwik Fit

I'm planning on putting the zed into kwik fit tomorrow for an MOT and an interim service .....

does anybody know if Kwik Fit are able to re-set the "oil change due ......" display thing ..........

They say they can, but I thought you needed to be plugged into a stealers computer ..........

you can reset it yourself, plenty of guides on here/the internet

If it's showing 'oil change due' then it's a scheduled service not an interim one, and you wouldn't want to reset the indicator if you're only doing an interim change, otherwise your service schedule will get screwed up (unless you mean interim as 'between inspection' oil service, rather than 'between oil service' oil service).

But, if you're taking it to Kwik-Fit anyway, you obviously don't care

Kwik Fit for a service? Jaysus.

Perhaps try a local independent BMW specialist. Certainly no more expensive but the guy will have worked on something other than Transit vans and Knackered old Astra's at some point. Do Kwik Fit even carry the right oil?

Kwik in Scarborough are excellent - a bit like BMW dealers; some good;; some bad some bloody aweful.

I charged the Airco system from my Polo there, first time been in there and that is about the level of confidence in my local one as well.

Watched them change tyres and I was horrified, even though they were not even my wheels.

I agree. Wouldn't touch Kwik Fit with a barge pole based on my past experiences. Not enough care in work quality and preprogrammed to over-embellish the urgency to replace parts that still have usable life.

Excellent ........... sounds like some bad experiences with Kwik Fit then.

The one up my way is excellent - boys do a proper job and treat the cars with respect. I'd use them any day.
Its an MOT that needs doing and they are just around the corner - thought Id get an extra oil change whilst i was there ( not a big fan of lying on my back in the snow) and I like to change oil ........ 5000 miles is enough for me. (change the oil on the race bikes everytime they go out )
Main service will be at the stealers cos I want the stamp in the book.

The apochrophal basis for this is that they do it as a loss leader to drum up more business from a stereotypically naïve female owner.

Sorry miss, but I wouldn't want to let an 'unsafe' vehicle leave here with tyres below our recommended minimum of 8mm, so we've changed them for you at cost. Here's a bill for £1000.

This is just an opinion like ......... hahahahaha .......... so don't all go off at a tangent yelling at me ........... but .........

I've been maintaining racing engines for more years than I want to remember and I've thrown more cams and cranks in the bin through overheating (blue'd) using expensive hi tech oils .............
Best oil on the block by far is regular Shell Advance with regular oil changes ...... basicaly when you can't see through it any more - it's too late.

Completely agree that the oil change intervals are way too long in modern engines.

My M5 had it's oil changed every 3,000 miles and the Z4M has it's changed every 5-6,000 miles - all on top of the scheduled servicing of course.

But I do the interim ones myself and keep the invoice for the oil & filter kit, and record the mileage on the invoice.

I bought my z4 new in December 2004 and after the first two years of ownership I have only done very low mileage.
The car has been to BMW once for a service which was at about 15000 miles which was done around about two years after I bought the car.
I paid about £250 for oil service and brake fluid changed at Sandal BMW
The car has since had an oil change every two years regardless of the low miles done the following four yeas. The last two years saw just 4500 miles but still changed the oil.
I bought my own Castrol Edge and filter and had the local garage who I trust change the oil. He charged me £30 for the labour.
My car is now 6 years old and it runs and sounds like the day I drove it from the showroom.

Oh yes saw a Zed the other day being driven all over the place at speed, tailgating - boy racer no doubt. So that will be all Zed drivers are boy racers..........

Went to my local pub the other day - beer was terrible - ah that will be all pub beer is terrible then

....... broken springs, roof motors, O2 sensors, coils, runflats, wheel corrosion, bonnet switches etc etc that'll be the excellent Z4 then.

AlanJ, I take your point - and it's often the case for BMW dealerships - experience with one person means the whole franchise is useless, rather than just one idiot.

Although with the Kwik-Fit chain I know enough about the one in Henley, two in Reading, one in Portsmouth and one in Devon (near Sidmouth somewhere) to not use those. I am sure there will be other similar experiences if you asked, PVR's experience for one. Given that there is an inherent issue with the brand - I suspect a joint management / recruitment / training / culture issue. No doubt there will be well managed branches that take pride in their work. Would I want to test an un-recommended branch with my car? Emphatically not. Would I use them on recommendation, possibly. I must confess though, I do like to use the quality local small businesses by preference, but that's a personal thing.

In Kwik-Fit's favour, the one thing they do seem to be good at is re-gassing aircon.

Mine has had no parts fail in over six years of ownership. Replaced only wipers.
My point was to agree with the principle in that I would also trust other than a BMW Garage to change oil and filter supplied by myself for extra changes over and above the required services.
That would include Kwik Fit if I had previously had good reports about the place.
Hope this hasn't deviated too much from the original thread !

Well job done and I'm well happy.

Mechanics at my local quick fit are competent and friendly and they dont object to you standing there whilst they do the work. I'd recomend them to anyone
