Knocking sound

I'm getting a knocking sound from the front suspension when going over bumps. It's not really that loud and it isn't metallic sounding.

Anyone got any idea what it could be? I'm thinking either worn bush or loose control arm?

Might need a pair of these http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/BMW_Z4+Coupe_3.0_2006/p/car-parts/suspension-and-steering/suspension/suspension-arm-and-suspension-joints/?616110360&1&40b48ff5001f219e73d7b18fd9eb6730978cf461&000320

Yeh, i'm thinking this is the most likely scenario.

I'm going to get it booked in at my local indy this week.

Fingers crossed its not too painful on my wallet

Hi,
have you tried tightening the nuts on the strutbraces?? I had knocking coming from what sounded like the dash, tightening the bolts solved it..it may help you?

Forgot to say, car has done 87k now if that helps the diagnosis.

So its most likely something wear and tear related on the suspension / steering.

Booked in for Thursday.....fingers crossed not too expensive

Ok, it's not good news :(

Sounds like I need new drop links, ball joint and wishbone. This is going to bleed my wallet dry :(

Edit: Most of the front suspension needs replacing, going to cost £580 :headbang:

this is basically what I bought for mine, its half the cost of genuine BMW parts & alot more hard wearing.

if you read it does say for Z4 in the listing but when you check Compatibility at the top it says it doesnt fit

Could try e-mailing the bloke and asking him, he was very helpful when I bought things from him

Cheers for the link Mikey.

I'm not sure my Indy will let me supply the parts though due to warranty issues :( So I would still have to find someone to fit it all.

The £580 I've been quoted at least includes all parts, labour and alignment, so maybe not too bad a price?

its worth asking them though, you could save yourself a bit of money!

As for the price youve been quoted i aint a clue im afraid. I do everything apart from servicing myself. wasnt really a big job, maybe 3 hours or so i think, it was a long time ago though and my memory aint the best!

Well, I did ask if I could supply the parts but they weren't happy with that unfortunately :(

So went ahead and just got it done. They also changed some belts and did the wheel alignment.

Car drives fine now with no knocking or clunking sounds and my wallet is £580 lighter!

True, but knowing my luck the rear suspension will be next

Ah well, that's the problem with owning any 9 year old car with 87k on the clock I guess.
