Knocking sound coming from Dashboard

Hi,
I'm in the US, this is my first post. Around 2 weeks ago, I started getting a knocking sound coming from the dashboard area, when I insert key and turn (Key in engine off) its knocks for about 4 seconds then stops. It happens consistently. If I want to reproduce the problem I have to wait about 10 minutes.
I don't experience any other problems with the car, just this weird new problem. My concern is that it is the early signs of something more serious.

Have you tried turning off the heater fan? Just an idea :wink:

do you have a CD stuck in the radio?

my old radio used to make worrying knocking noises, replaced under warranty.

thanks Guys, I took it to the dealer today for service. They say the sound is from the Vent Flaps. I always have my heating/air off when I turn the car on so that won't solve the problem. They offered to take the dash apart and troubleshoot but warned against it and I agree. I can live with the noise, as quick as it arrived it can also go away.
