Knocking problem from DCT - first gear idle

Hi, dont know if anybody has experienced this as yet, but i have a near 3 year old 35i with DCT and everything has been fine up to this evening. Coming back from a shopping trip in my local town i pulled up at a set of lights and could hear a knocking coming from what i presumed was the car behind me.... Turned off my engine expecting the noise to carry on from the car behind me only to discover that it was MY CAR, and MY NOISE.

I have been able to reproduce the noise almost at will, so decided to take it straight to the dealers. As busy as they were they got the workshop controller to come out with me and fortunately after a bit of effort the knocking was heard by the technician. He agrees its not right and its when the oil is hot and the car is in first gear. It sounded like a camshaft, but its deffo the gearbox.

When it goes in to have the window motors changed next week they will look at the knocking.... We will see. not bad for 13,800 miles!

Oh dear... well, I've had mine replaced at around 10K miles due to 1st gear vibration! Its got 14K on the new DCT and its been smooth as silk, though I do still have an unexplained albeit minor 25mph wobble through the car under high torque that I'm now wondering if its DCT/Diff or just 'the way it is'. At least a knocking is reproducible where my wobble is just now and then.

The wobble sound really odd.

Yep, not sure what the hell it is, its minor and intermittent and I'm hopeful I can get it on a rolling road next year for better diagnosis. Would not surprise me at all if the guys that replaced the DCT didn't quite do something right. Still, even after all the crap, I can't part with it. Its more like the feeling of a warped disc, that slight dragging/pulsing sensation through the car bu clearly the brakes aren't on when accelerating, well, not on by me!

It does sound like TC intervening which is quite often in my case or the electronic diff ( not the actual diff, but the brakes doing their thing at the back?)

Did you get this diagnosed? My 35is has just started doing something similar after 3k miles.
