Knocking noise from front

Hi , I just got my Z4 last week and today noticed a knocking noice coming from the front. I had the roof down so I think I noticed it more. I have a z4 2.5si facelift 2007 e85 z4. No warning lights or difference when driving. Just a clunking noise, mainly in low gear. Thanks so much

Often it’s an anti roll bar drop link.
Check the engine bay struts are tight. Even a quarter turn will make them knock.
Then check the condition of the front wishbone rear bushes (Lollipops)

I had exactly the same noise from my drop-links/lollipops. It sounds terrible on anything other than glass smooth roads. Interestingly, you can only tell if there is okay with the wheels on the ground. When I had the wheel off it had no play at all - as it was under tension. Anyway, it’s not unsafe but it does need sorting. The parts are not that dear and the job is easy

Thank you so much , have tightened them up - the v-bar as the ones at the back were not tightened up properly so I will see if it’s done the job. Thanks so much for all your help.

drop links and lollipops are different parts in BMW speak. The lollipops are the bushes at the rear of the bottom arms that connect them to the subframe.

Hi, it’s still knocking. I wondered if anyone would be able to know if the previous owner knew about this as they changed the front lower wishbones, rear roll bar links and rear shock absorbers. Or, would any of this work done cause a knocking noise if not done correctly?

If you’ve done all the other bits then knocks from the front going over bumps are usually anti roll bar drop links. They are cheap and easy to change.

So do I replace the front anti roll bar links ? Thank you so much for all your help !
As everything else we thought of has been covered then I think this would be the next logical step.

Just thought I would follow up in case anyone else gets the same problem. All the advice was spot on thank you, went to change the anti roll bar links and one of the nuts wouldn’t come off but noticed as we took it apart it came off really easily so we just tightened everything up and no more knocking. Should keep me going for a while . Thanks again for all your help everyone.
