Knocking noise from front.

Hello! New Z4 owner and recent forum member (obligatory photo attached!).

I bought my 2003 e85 3.0 in November and been having great fun since.

The hood stuck down last month and after a quick search on here, I visited Durham Dave (3 hour drive from Glasgow) who did a great job, in the time it took me to walk to Greggs and take 1 sip of coffee. Super quick and super neat job of relocating the now working motor to the boot. Well worth the round trip.

Now I have another issue... a knocking noise from the front of the car. It happens mostly at slow speeds on uneven ground (possibly because I can't distinguish it from the other noises at higher speeds).

I pushed down on the NSF wing and heard it knocking too, so drove straight to the mechanic to let him hear it....no knocking! Then I parked on an area almost flat, as close to the same as my driveway as possible and it knocked when pushing on the NSF. He seemed to think it was coming from near the OSF, but after checking the bushes, arms, drop links, gear box mounts (and another few things, which I can't remember), he can't find an issue.

If he can't find an issue, I assume the car won't fall to bits mid-drive, and as I'd rather have it located and fixed, figured some on here may have had similar experience, so any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Here you go
You could see the cracks in the rubber: new one is headed the same way too so new ones on order!

I should have mentioned, the OSF had a broken spring, so that and the top mount were done co-incedentally (or not) just before the knocking started.
The NSF does have a couple of small splits, but the OSF that was done looks a little different. The rubber seems to sit much deeper/lower.

Pics...

Magic. He'll be glad to possibly be directed towards it. I'll keep you posted on tomorrow's trip back there.

Notwithstanding the obvious fact that the top mount does need replacing, have you checked the engine bay braces? They can seem tight by hand, but then you find the nuts will take a bit of a turn and the knocking goes away.

Only as far as grabbing and attempting to move them. I've not checked or tightened with a torque wrench. They might have been done before as there is a yellow marker line on each one, presumably after being tightened/set so it would be visible if they'd come loose? Not sure if they're all marked like that.
Certainly worth asking them to be checked and or tightened to 35nM. Thanks.

Mine was knocking and the very slightest of tightening of one of the brace bolts made it go away.

Ok, thanks. I'll get them to check for sure first. Certainly the quickest and cheapest thing to check/sort before anything else.

A wee update guys.
Tightened strut brace (no difference) NSF top mount was replaced and the OSF top mount which was replaced with a road spring a few weeks ago, was apparently the wrong one! so replaced with the correct one too....along with a drop link on the OSF (which was supposed to have been checked before).
Anyway. A mile drive back up the road and the only creaks and rattles I can hear are those which are a 'feature'.
All that remain is the bill, which I'll get tomorrow.
Thanks for the help and direction
