Knocking noise coming from roof/bulkhead behind driver's seat

Hi all

I have a knocking noise coming from the roof/hood cover behind the drivers seat when driving over bumps in the road.

The car's been to BMW three times now with only limited success! They've tightened something in the roof but I still get a knocking when going over certain bumps in the road and it's driving me to distraction!

It sounds like a 'plastic' noise so it leads me to think that it's something to do with the plastic roof cover.

Has anybody had similar and/or have any advice?

Move your seat forward, might help
 
look out for posts from Maniac he has extensive knowledge of cabin noises and has written a few posts on the subject
 
Well, four attempts by the BMW dealer and it's still not fixed!!

Awaiting a call from the senior technician to arrange to come out and drive the car with me (again) to hear the noise (again)!! Then it'll go in for the fifth time!!!

BMW UK are no help either, just told me that they can't do anything until they've got a diagnosis from the technician!!

I can't believe mine is the only car that's ever had this problem.

Seriously fallen out of love with the car and BMW :(
 
I had a knocking sound when going over bumps and the wheel was offloading, drivers side rear. For me I noticed it roof up or down, turned out it was a broken coil. May well be completely different to what you are experiencing, but might be worth a look if not already done. Be nice to know what it turns out to be, always useful for something to look out for
 
Could be the rear deck knocking, use the search on here & you should find lots of tips for placing felt pads etc in different locations to cure buzzes/rattles :thumbsup:
