Knocking from the rear

Hi all, my 2.5 e85 has developed a loud knocking from the rear which I think is suspension related. I have recently changed the rtab’s (meyle) and the knocking started about 10 days later. It’s louder on the rear passenger side but sounds from both. Had the mot done today and asked them to have a nose. It’s a garage I fully trust but they can not locate the source of the knock. Oddly it doesn’t seem to happen when going over speed bumps, more so randomly. I also hear it very slightly when pulling away gently. The only fail on the mot was front bearing. Any suggestions of where to start looking? Areas prone to this? Thank you in advance.

Two strengthening bars under the rear of the car. Starting at the diff and ending just by the rear jacking points. Do them up nice and tight. I had a strange knocking noise which turned out to be that

Does it knock when you let the clutch up or take your foot off the gas when moving?

No bud, can hear it slightly as car starts rolling, them over any bumps.

Hi, my car has a knock then this happens. Do you know what the cause is? Thanks

This type of knock suggests that its the more likely drive train rather than suspension. It doesn't pinpoint the problem but could be prop shaft/diff joints or excessive play in the diff. Jack the back up and out of gear turn each wheel by hand - can you hear the knock / feel free-play before you feel the resistance of the drive train turning - yes and start investigating the drive train. No then start checking the bushes in the suspension for movement. I would expect (although not always the case) that a knock on breaking or on bumps is more likely suspension than drive train.

Try using the search function on the left hand tool bar there's got to be threads on here already about checking suspension bushes/ springs etc. Good luck

Check your ARB rear drop links... from memory one end is bolt on, the other is push on... you could have knackered one of them when changing the RTAB's

Thanks for the advice guys, really appreciate it. I'll start the investigation at the points mentioned, I will report back with the findings.

Even though I have no issue with my coupe, I really enjoy reading other peoples issues and how the forum members come together to assist.
Cheers guys :D

Replaced the pair as one was snapped. Knock improved but still there. Replacing rear shocks and mounts this week!

yes its annoying how clever this lot are ...

I had similar that seemed to appear after the trailing arms, turns out it was the top mounts being fairly shagged and the new stiffer trailing arm bushes were exacerbating it

I’m replacing the shocks this week and will be replacing the top mounts as well.
