Knocking/creaking noise in low gears?

Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar - noticed over the last 3 or 4 days that I get a creaking/knocking noise when I'm in 1st to 3rd gear doing less than 30mph. Can't hear it when going faster, but not sure if it's due to engine noise drowning it out or not. It's not constant but I can't seem to pin it down to anything in particular. At first I thought it was my suspension or steering, but doesn't seem to be associated with bumps in the road or turning. Also finding it hard to pinpoint exactly where it is coming from - appears to be coming from either the engine compartment or behind the dash on the driver's side. The performance of the car/steering doesn't seem to be affected.

Like I said, my suspension doesn't seem to be affected. Not sure if it could be a loose strut brace or similar after browsing the forum. I've to take it along to the dealers tomorrow for the chap to have a look at it - apparently won't be able to fix it then but if I can at least find out what's causing it that's half the battle (unless it's not covered by AUC warranty!)

Cheers in advance for any ideas.

Well took it to the dealers yesterday. The foreman took it out for a quick spin and diagnosed it straight away - loose V-bar. Fixed it straight away and it's now noise free (and feels slightly firmer handling). Funnily enough, I actually wondered if it could have been that and tried shaking the bars - they didn't move but must do so when the car is in motion.
