Knock Sensor change and fault code?

Hi folks, what's involved in changing a knock sensor? E85 2.5 2006 LCI model, N52 engine. Was using Carly today and the health check threw up this code. I reset the code and ran the check again and it didn't reappear.

Car is driving fine, no lights on the dash but if its a straightforward job I may as well replace it. Is it easy enough to do, how much dismantling is involved? Thanks 👍

Not straigthforeward.
You have to replace the (aluminium) bolts, clean the surface between sensor and block (from corrosion if present) and use the correct torque on the bolts: 10Nm and 90deg.
Magnesium block so no steel bolts.

I assume you have to remove the inlet manifold, but maybe you can reach them from underneath.
I assume you looked?

Maybe the knock sensor was working correctly and detected an intermittent knock that isn't there any more?
If it doesn't come back I'd leave it alone.

What he said. Monitor - no evidence that the sensor is faulty if it's thrown a code, means it's working surely?!

The more I see of Carley the less I’m impressed with it given how much it costs!

To be fair it looks like the OP has the 'lite' version...

Either way, I think Carly can be a useful tool if used in the right way.

The sensor maybe fine & just reporting an issue https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1283882&page=3
You recently reported your oil level was low, if the ccv is gummed up & dumping oil vapour into the inlet manifold it could easily cause detonation to occur, the sensor may have just been doing it’s job by detecting this?

Thanks all, appreciate the replies. Oil level topped up, went for a drive this afternoon and the check button now results in 'OK' being displayed.

I ran the Carly health check again and it resulted in zero issues so the error reported previously hasn't returned. Will keep an eye on it from here on in. Ta!!!
