Knee Op

Hi there everybody,
Am I being too optimistic in hoping to still be able to get in and out of my coupe after a full knee replacement.
Just wondered if any of the members had any experience of this?
I will certainly be trying my damnedest as I love the car and would hate to have to sell it.
I'm obviously talking about a few weeks in the future.
Apologies for the orientation.
Regards
Andy

No experience with knees but the wife has a fused spine and she manages the zed just need to be careful when parking next to kerbs!

Ive got an ACL replacement coming up in the next few months on my left knee

As my daily is a manual, im hoping i can hop in and out of the Zed and run that for a few months

Thanks for the replies guys. I've got about 120% at the moment with a good tug and it was only done last night so I should manage it. But I'll have to have a good look around before and try to make sure no ones about. Don't want the ladies seeing a 52 year old exiting a really cool car by crawling on his elbows
Good call on the kerbs.

See, if you had a convertible, you could fit some rings in the garage so you could just lower yourself in and out from the top

Don't worry about it. I make undignified exits from the coupe regularly and have no medical excuses

You should be able to manage it OP, but it may take a little while!

When I got my first one my 92 year old mother insisted on getting in it and she's has both knees done!

I have had one knee rebuilt (left one) including repairing torn cartilage, damaged ligaments, and a bone shave. My right knee is due the same shortly, as I have limited movement - I have been offered knee replacement but I'm exploring all other options first. I may look ungainly getting in and out, but I still manage to use #108 on a regular basis, so don't see you having an issue with the coupe

If you're squeamish look away now....
So I fell of a climbing wall from 4m and snapped my left leg at the knee. Snapped both cruciates, both collaterals and the posterial lateral corner ligaments. IE everything. I also stretched the nerve controlling my foot movement (which they gave me a 50/50 chance of ever coming back), and took all the cartilage off the inside half of my knee.

I was in hospital for a month during which time I had 4 ops, but was able to drive the zed again 5 months after the fall. Unfortunately I wont ever run again, but 2 years on I can walk pretty well (managed 5 1/2 miles in the Peak district November last year), and have no issues getting into/out of/driving the zed :D

Make sure you're onto the physiotherapy as early and as hard as you can, it makes a huge difference to mobility and how quickly you can get back to some semblance of normality!

There's a guy I work with has had both knees replaced and still manages to drive his MR2. I know it's not a zed but it's close.

I have no trouble, but it was my left knee I had done.
With a right knee, if you are like me, you no longer just stick your left leg out and then lever yourself out of the car - the weight bearing and twisting is hard on the left knee. I swing both legs out, which in your case means having reasonable bending ability.

Pretty good chance you won't have any problems getting in and out, but apply yourself to the physio. I have pretty much resigned myself to never being able to kneel easily again - an activity I need for two hobbies, gardening and working on cars!

My Wife's friend had a left knee replacement last year and within a few weeks she was back driving her MX5 so you'll probably be fine when it loosens up a bit.

I have a knacked left knee and will be heading down the replacement route soon as well  my view is if i can get in and out now when i don't have full movement It surely can't be any worse afterwards
