Kiwi Z4

Hi everyone,

I’ve been lurking on the forums for a week now, soaking up all the information I can find about the E86 Z4, and I figured it was finally time to say hello.

I don’t currently have a Z4, but I’ve been researching for some time and been filling the kitty for a while. The E86 is the dream, I’m hoping for the right colour: I’m really keen on the blues (Interlagos or Monaco/Montego) or the silver/grey tones. Black is on the list as a last resort, but I’m really hoping to find one of those more vibrant shades.

I'm in New Zealand, the pickings are pretty slim—I believe there were only four "NZ New" M Coupes delivered here, so they are incredibly rare, and finding a manual 3.0si means looking at imports also rare. I’ve settled on the 3.0si as my primary target and will see what happens.

Looking forward to eventually pulling the trigger on a purchase.
P.S great threads here :)
I have been looking at the UK market (pretty sparse in AU and NZ) and wondered if it was viable to import one to NZ, has anyone done it or got any advice on that?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

An E86 is an excellent choice, but then I may be slightly biased! But you are going to struggle to find one as according to this database that someone on here compiled there were no 3.0Sis registered in NZ and only two Ms - both Roadsters!

You may fare slightly better in your search if you include Australia, but I don't know what the situation would be importing from there. Obviously an import from the UK would attract duty, etc. but prices seem to be lower in the UK than pretty much anywhere else.

Good luck finding one anyway, but bear in mind that running costs are way higher for an M.

Im biased too! thanks for the help w the DB, there is hope :)

I think the NZTA and how the vehicles are recorded is messy, Because the Motor Vehicle Register (MVR) categorizes vehicles primarily by "Make" and "Model" (e.g., "BMW Z4"), it does not naturally distinguish between the Roadster (E85) and the Coupe (E86) variants in its standard public-facing reporting. (the name Roadster, NZ had some confusion between the difference)
But I have found that only 4 Z4 M-Coupes delivered to New Zealand New, another chap on Bimmersport searching the VIN Using the NZTA database, searching for WBADU52 (Z4 Coupe) gives 68 Coupes. No mention if they are AT or MT but from other info it seems all nz new are AT.
