 By the seaside...
Our semi-integrated dishwasher has decided to go to appliance heaven so I need to get a replacement... to fit in the space it'll need to be semi or fully integrated, but I need to get it quickly as my replacement dishwasher is getting quite irate and starting to throw things at me :wink:

I've been hunting and like the look of a Siemens model does anyone have any experience with these?

Whatever I go for I'll need a new front (door / panel / whatever they're called), I'm not going to be able to get one that matches the kitchen as it's a Poggen Pohl range that's been discontinued for over 10 years - so Cindy thinks we should just get a plain white or stainless steel one as we don't mind it looking like an appliance. I've googled but can't find much about the panels that fit to the front of these things - do you have to get them from a kitchen supplier?

Can't help about that Siemens model but you can get the panels from a supplier, they are all standard sizes.
 
It looks like a fully integrated washer which sits on a bottom panel of the housing (i.e. not directly on the floor) if so all you need is a front 'drop-down' door panel of the right size to match the existing units and a new door pull handle.

You will have to fit new hinges to the new door panel which should be pre-drilled to accept the hinge and then its a matter fitting the washer door to the panel door. All necessary fittings and instructions will come with the new washer.

We've just replaced our Poggen-Pohl kitchen which had lasted nearly 30 years which ain't bad. The replacement won't last that long.

I've had a look at the installation instructions - which all seems OK. It was really about door suppliers - after Caz's post I'll have to contact some local firms, I'm hoping to find someone with stock that I can go and see rather than looking at pictures as I like to see/touch to get an idea of the durability
 
Perry, you'll get from them most places, Wickes, Homebase, B&Q etc off the shelf. Other places you may have to order.
 
Hi Perry. Check out Howdens and magnets too. If there's anything you want in either of theses places, I've got trade accounts with them and can sort you out. Some companies will sell you appliance doors withoutr pre- drilled holes, so you might need to do some measuring first. Siemens are an above average brand.
Check unit depth before you buy as the old kitchen might have a 600, 616, 650mm or custom depth work surface. Most appliances are 595mm wide but check your aperture first. Email me directly if you want any further help. Andy :thumbsup:

I've measured the cavity once so I knew the size of appliances to look for but I'll do it again before ordering (measure twice, cut once)...

We have a local Howdens in Worthing and I know their stuff is supposed to be good quality so i'll investigate - I've got a mate who's in the building trades so I'm sure he can get stuff from there but, if not, I may take you up on your kind offer :thumbsup:
 
Done dozens of these in my time & some can be a bitch & some take minutes :cry: Be wary of the cheaper MDF wrapped doors as the steam when released from the dishwasher soon has the corners unwrapping :? best of luck with the task of finding & fitting :thumbsup:

Well I don't expect it to take 'minutes' as, while not a DIY novice, I haven't replaced a dishwasher before - I'm just hoping it doesn't turn out to be a bitch.... :lol:

I'll keep an eye out for those MDF wrapped doors - one of the reasons I want to see the door before buying... :thumbsup:
 
RE the bitch/mins I was referring to the attaching of the door to the appliance not the installation of the dishwasher itself :roll: & if your door has a inlaid profile be wary where the brackets attach that the screws do'nt come through :cry:

Ah, I though you were just very, very good... :lol:

I've looked at the door fitting instructions, it looks fairly straightforward and should be OK as far as screw penetration goes as we'll want a flat door profile - just got to find one that receives the SSoA*
