Kinked tyre bead - anyone seen this before?

Went to put on my winter tyres today, put this one on and it went flat almost immediately. Inspected it and the bead looks like this on the inside - it doesn't look like a bubble to me, but that the bead hasn't seated properly. Took it to the local tyre place who removed and refitted it but it's still like that - the bead had a kink even off the rim. The tyres aren't new - I used them last winter and they came off the wheels while I had the 224's refurbished and they were fine last winter.

Any ideas?

Prior pothole damage? If the interior webbing of the tyre has failed it would be unroadworthy.

No information from the garage that fitted it?

You say they were removed then refitted, maybe they were damaged by the tyre fitter when they were being taken off the rim and you have only just noticed.

Just to round out this thread - it looks like the metal bead inside the tyre has snapped, never seen this happen before so will see what pirelli say.

This happened to me when I had new tyres on my new alloys. When I inspected the tyres after fitting it was visible. Tyre fitter tried to blame the alloys.

Short version of a long story is the damage was done by the tyre fitter when levering on the last part of the tyre manually. He damaged the bead and when the tyre was removed, the damage was visible. They eventually replaced the tyre, but they tried to get out of it though.
