I'm pretty sure there's a post way back on this forum where I posted a pic of my mpg of 9 at then end of about an hour long spirited run.
But then, I can sit on the motorways and country lanes with the cruise control on, in sixth, and rack up the mpg for when I don't feel like hooning it
3.0 si is the best of both worlds like others have said up to 40 imp MPG on a long run.You can have your cake and eat it.
If you look at the convertible 370Z against the roadster its higher tax lower MPG same 0-60.
If you really wan't economy you would go for a diesel.
The only other car I would be looking at is the TT TTS or the Z4 35i.
I Have had the 2.5i Z4 and enjoyed that. I wouldn't go for a 2.0 but I am sure they are a great car too.
As the saying goes there is no replacement for displacement.
My criteria when buying this car was 2 seater convertible, under 6.0 secs 0-60, Over 30 MPG (imp). Around £10k, below 40,000 miles . There are not too many choices.

Don't get me wrong the 2l is fun to drive and like many other posters it has plenty in the lower gears . I suppose I'm just a little disappointed with the sound of the engine and performance. I agree that once you have one thing you automatically want more. My main concern was mpg of the 3l as I have a long trip every weekend.
It sounds like you can get best of both worlds with the 3. Is there much difference between the 3 and the 3M??

the 3 litre straight 6 is a great engine, and even when pushing on, I can't seem to fall far below 25mpg, which is nearly double what I get from the RS6...
so the Zed is actually a really fun and economical car!

The 2.5SI doesn't seem to be quite as economical - well mine doesnt anyway.

Like previously said, you get something then after a while wish it was quicker and then want more power.

Same here 2.5Si sport and if anything it burns more fuel than the 3s reported on here. Researching the car the advice I found was the 2.5 was a good compromise but I guess if I had found the forum before buying I would probably have gone for a 3. 2.5 is very quick though especially if I go near the red line. Probably not a lot of real world difference.

I regularly got 30 mpg when hooning.
Don't know how some folks only manage 25mpg with a 3.0i.... I got 25mpg average from a 3.2 S54 engine at the weekend over 350 miles. And it was a spirited drive too

Obviously I can only speak for myself, but when I use the Zed its for city driving, I don't go on motorways and sit at a steady pace, and when I do go out hooning, I tend to use all the rev range...
So that's how my MPG is under 25...

Haha I'm sure it is. Very interesting to hear from someone who has upgraded the 2l to the 3l. Was it like stepping in to a totally different car?? Performance wise obviously !!
In short yes.
I went from a 2.0i to a 3.0si Auto.
The performance is totally different and I love it. There is no flat spot like the 2.0 has and when you put your foot down the car just goes and goes without letting up.
Motorway overtakes are easy and a simple flooring easily bring me from 70 to 95 when doing such things.
MPG isn't too bad either. On my 125 mile motorway commute I used to get 44 MPG in the 2.0 and I got 36MPG this week in the 3.0si with a few fast spurts as slow traffic as I got off the motorway the other end.
The noise is something completely different, have one stage of the sound gen mod done at present and it sounds epic when taking her to high revs. Even the low down rev growl is brilliant.
Overall I am a very happy chappy with the upgrade
