Kill switch

I got a phone call from my son last night to say my work van has been stolen :headbang: . So either they have had a chipped key or they bypassed the immobiliser.
This has got me thinking about the z4, how secure is the e89, and has anyone fitted an additional immobiliser or even a “kill switch” say to the fuel pump?

Hi chippie
Sorry to hear about the van , is your zed keyless start ? In fact even if it isn’t.... I’ve got a disc lock steering lock on mine . It’s just way too easy to nick keyless cars these days, I know people use the key bags to protect from being picked up by the scanner , I have one of those also, but I don’t trust them entirely, sounds like hassle fitting the lock but it’s 10 seconds to fit for peace of mind their not bomb proof, but anyone trying to remove it will be making I lot of noise, the other thing is a ring doorbell on your drive where the cars are , I set mine on vibrate alert , anyone coming onto my drive sets it off , so you always know if anyone is there

The door bel is a great tip thanks

The zed is not keyless so that’s one thing less to worry about

Mine is keyless, I am pretty sure you can code it out in Carly app.
Whenever I park publicly I make a point of getting the key out, pointing it at the car. Just in case someone is watching for a 'nick to order' car.
Also i have a theory that if your key will not manually open your car from where you store it, then it cannot be read by a scanner, like I said, theory only..

Sorry don't think you're safe with that - if it won't open it from your front door you're getting better but the scum just bring the scanner to your door (or walk round your house trying) then they ping the key.

You’re most likely right, my home is old, very thick walls and only accessible at the front. I guess a metal key box earthed out might work

Lead lined to be on the safe side 😁

That's the whole point of the scanner, it extends the range acting as a middle man.

Biscuit tin, that's where i keep my battery powered radio in case of nuclear attack and electromagnetic pulse.

I will listen to that radio waiting for the government to tell me from their underground bunker, it's all safe outside for me to come out..

I pondered this point, I think I would grab my biscuit tin and head straight for the most likely blast site..did you see the M Portillo doc on what the goverment's prep was really like?

I was amazed by those 70's US tv shows where you would see signs on the wall directing you to nuclear shelters.
We never had such here in the UK, just WW2 siren. If anyone actually took any notice.

Heard in the US, used to call out part time firemen, had me worried.
