Kidney grill removal

Whats the best safest way to remove the kidney grills on a 2003 e85?
I image its not too difficult but want to do it in correct order so I dont snap anything,I know how these cars have self imploding clips just looking at them can make them snap with anger

Just pull with Even force in small steps around the edge.

I found the best way was to grip the vertical grilles and push upwards which then frees the clips and the bottom and they then just pop out at the bottom. So a kind of upwards and out at the bottom force. Hope this helps.

Depends if you want to emphasis or hide them.
Black will hardly show. Silver like the car is an option, but in my minds eye looks a bit insipid.
Maybe consider a bright contrast? All depends on your personal taste.
For example, wifey insisted on her Sterling Grey E85 having yellow calipers, with matching bars behind the grille and the engine bay strut braces. And now she's looking at the possibility of retrimming the black seats with matching yellow stitching....................I guess then it'll be a matching Royals steering wheel. :roll:

This is where I am at,like the idea of a more noticable colour blue,yellow but will this be too much but then i think silver to match the car ,maybe a google is required to get a few ideas as to how it will look .

Not too noticeable, though with the sun shining into the front it does stand out a little bit more.

In my experience you’ll do a better job by removing the bars to paint them. However the torx head screws can be a b*tch to remove. If you paint them in situ, it’s helpful to remove the panel at the front of the engine bay as well, for more complete access.

Once I get the grills off I will have a closer look at the advice youve given,may depend on how much of a pain the torx bolts are.

They’re not difficult to get at, but it’s easy to burr the heads if they’re stuck. If you burr the heads, you can’t drill them out without taking the bumper off.

Nice to know,will give them plenty of releasing agent and let them soak before I attempt it.
Trouble with taking longer over the refurb is time,the cars my daily so cant have her of the road for any length of time

My car is Silver Grey and they were painted red to match the brake calipers by a previous owner. Luckily I think they look great!

My calipers ive painted black,so think this may be a little bit bland so at the minute edging towards amber to match the indicators or silver to match the body as when you see them its only from a front view so thats where i feel asthetically thats where they should tie in.
