Keyless entry / go , , how to set keyfobs up ?

So a strange one :roll: E89 with keyless entry / go , car has 2 keyfobs , 1 functions 100% the other will only function by pressing buttons & inserting into dash slot .
Is this a simple procedure to make "keyless" ?
Its going into my indy next Tuesday for a inspection & oil change so worse case i can get him to look at it unless there's a simple procedure to activate the function

It's you key personal profile.
If you have the original manual then check out page 28 Personal Profile. Or if you have the app on your phone then just do a text search for Personal Profile and it should show you how to set up the second key.

It does, I’ve got comfort access, only found out after I did a VIN check, till then I had been using the key slot.

Yea one fob definitely works keyless entry & go & dash definitely has a slot :?

So manual out i read the whole 4/5 pages regarding keyfob operation & zero mention of how to sync keys to function with / without keyless :?

Found this for you Andy....

If the fob has the replaceable battery, then it is a CA key. If the key works as a normal remote key, but not with comfort access, then one of two situations has occurred - either the CA specific hardware in the fob is broken (less likely), or the fob is a replacement for a lost fob, and the dealer didn't disable the lost fob (more likely).

You can have up to 10 keys defined to a car, and each key will have a key number. These keys can be type 2 (transponder only), type 4 (remote fob), or type 5 (CA fob). You can have more than 2 CA fobs defined to the car, but only two will work with CA - the two enabled CA keys with the lowest key numbers.

So, what could have happened is that the previous owner lost one of his CA fobs. He ordered a new fob, but for some reason the lost fob was not disabled. This will result in the new/replacement CA fob working only as a remote fob.

All that makes some sense Perry , just had a scout through the history & found it has had a new key supplied by Bmw quite recently & looking at the fob it does look new .

Keyless entry is a bad idea for car security.
Did you ever see the episode of Top Gear where they had a keyless entry Lamborghini, some muppet dropped the key down
the side of the drivers seat.
As a result the car had to be 'under guard' until someone could get the key back as anyone could have driven it away!
