Keyfob Range

Guys, happy holidays!

Something's been bugging me big time lately. My keyfob won't unlock/lock the car beyond say about 7ft,~2m tops. And it doesn't seem to always listen to the open trunk command.

Wondering what you guys' range on the keyfob is?

My car is '06si

This one's been covered a few times so worth a search.

Check if you are near to something causing interference as some have reported that as an issue.

Mine will easily work for 25m to 50m away, with clear line of sight to the car. Walking towards the car blip 3 times and the roof will be down by the time I reach it, so the basic system is good at range.

I checked the other posts, pretty funny stuff in the "Most embarrassing" post.
I found that if I had any electronic stuff on in the car, like a portable GPS or a phone charger the range was a few feet but increased dramatically with all the gadgets turned off, also need to keep the battery charged up in the key fob, one set never works 'coz I hardly use them.

There's always the point it at your chin trick. Amazing, it works - it will double or triple the range from which the remote works.

Touch the key to your chin and open your mouth. Doing that will add 30ft to your range.

Just remember, the receiver is located in the rear view mirror, center of the wind screen.

Mine is pretty poor with range too, though the key fobs don't get charged much. Have tried the "pointing the key at your head" and that does increase the range but in all fairness I've never had anything near the 25 - 50m range. Even with all the other bm's I've had they have never had a great range compared to other makes of cars.

Don't laugh at this - it honestly does work.

Doesn't work for me, the signal must be getting absorbed in the triple chin

I fitted an after market remote system to the runabout Polo. Amazingly enough, that has a range of 250 metres or so ...

never tried my chin, but near my brain works well.

not sure if it's doing any harm but hey it makes me feel good when it works, so it must be ok. 8)

Thanks guys for the responses.

I tried the chin thing, it does improve some, somehow, magically :) It probably improves my range from about 4-5m to about 10+.

But, alas, the farthest I can get is maybe 15m tops and not that reliably either.

I take 50 minute drives all the time.. so I highly doubt my key is not charged..?
