Keyfob Hood Lowering

Hi guys,
Picked up the zed yesterday and am absolutely loving it.
A bit nervous about the ice everywhere but driving it like a granny so should be ok!!
Before anyone says anything, I know I haven't posted pics yet - been having too much fun driving it but you'll be pleased to know the stubby is fitted. :D
Anyway, my question is.....
I know it's possible for the roof to be dropped from the keyfob - mine doesn't :(
Should this be a standard feature for every zed? I can't find any mention of it in the manual.
Is there a way to reset it without a trip to the dealers and the associated cost?
I saw the post about Autotech which could be an option should all else fail, would just like it working ASAP as it's such a cool feature.

Any help much appreciated and Happy Christmas to you all.

Cheers,
Andy

Autotech is the way.. it's not standard, but was part of the comfort pack on some models I believe....

2005 onwards to drop from the key as standard. So third party might be your best route if you're older than that

I was under the impression it was standard. Don't think mine has the comfort pack but holding the unlock button does bring the hood down.

Takes about 3 seconds of holding it down before it does though.

Mine was built in 2005 and was one of the last pre-facelift cars to be made and I can drop the roof with the key. IIRC it's only standard on pre-facelift? (...someone is bound to correct me on that). You can get your key coded to raise the roof as well using the key, but BMW won't do that due to 'safety reasons'. It's possible to get it done through an indy though.

I had mine done last Monday by Trenics in Queensferry ( North Wales) they programmed the key for a few bits for me,even went through the menu so I could choose what i wanted. total cost £32
Mine is a 2007 Z4MR. I can highly recommend Trenics, they are a indy BMW specialist and have looked after my old
330 CI Coupe since I moved into the area. Might be a long way for some to drive but if your in the area its worth it, servicing prices are
good too!! :D

Wow,so much response so quickly!
Mine is an '04 plated 2.5
It seems I'm going to have to pay a visit somewhere to get it done then.
Maybe a trip to Autotech between Christmas and new year - Any excuse for the drive!!

Thanks for all the responses.

As far as I know, BMW did it on (some maybe) 03s, stopped it on 04s, restarted in on 05s.

There's probably a more precise version of that :)

BMW will do that over here, either they are too lazy to try or they don't know how.

I had mine done by Peter at autotech- telford, great guy, also did CDV while I was there. He will show you the options and u can chose what u want or just simply add everything. welcome to the club mate. Get some pics.

Mine is a 54 plate, reg in Dec 04 and the roof opens from the key. However it didn't work for the 1st day or 2 I had the car before then making it half way down before going the whole way down a day later. It always opened ok from in the car. I figured that as the car had averaged less than 600 miles a year for the past 3 years that the batteries in the keys were too low to manage a sustained 3 second press to open the roof. Now that the car is in regular use and the keys are charged up it works fine.

Possibly worth considering if you have only had the car a few days and are using the previous owners 2nd key which may have never been used.

Thanks for that - could be a possibility. I'll try it again in a few days.
Just for the record, nothing better than a Zed with the roof down on Christmas Morning.
Lovin' it!!

I have an 2003 3.0 L and went to the dealer tech who is a good friend and we went thru the whole menu on a Saturday and it was definetely not one of the options on my key menu.
Any one know of a fix that can remedy this...I am in the far North of Oz and dont have the options for indys that you guys do.

There's two systems to program the BMWs.. one is the standard dealer system, the other is the Autotech system which independants usually lease (for quite a fee).

The dealer one doesn't allow roof up - for any market, US / UK / USA - but the Autotech one does.

So find *anyone* that has the Autotech system and Robert's your uncle's brother.

Hehehehe how did you know that.
Close......
In actual fact Robert is my Fathers - Brothers Son making him my cousin and making him dads nephew.
Finding a user of "Autotech" wont be easy up here.

Had mine done by a local Indy.
Must be Autotech they have as I now have both up and down from the keyfob..... along with a couple of other options.
Sorted!!
