Key transponder

Hi all,

Had a strange issue with the zed yesterday, where it just wouldnt start, key unlocked the car fine, went in ignition fine, but after turning, just wouldnt fire up..

Luckily after speaking to a friend who is a BMW technician, he recommended using my spare key, and it worked fine..

Seems that the transponder in my usual key has gone, and without it working the car is immobilised. Anyone know any easy fixes?

At the moment I'm assuming its a trip to the dealers and a new key & programming!! which is no doubt going to be £££

Well if it is the transponder then it's a new key from BMW. Most bits can be swapped out from a cheap key on ebay but this bit is unique to the cars key set.

AlL I can suggest is try it a few more times and see if it works or is def dead.

Bugger! Thought that might be the case... Worth a try anyway..

Even more of a downer i that my spare key I'm now having to use has a flat battery, so no remote locking! Hoping it charges now its in regular use, if not BMW will be making me two new keys!

The spare will charge up quickly in use and soon act as the remote door opener. Best carry both for a day or 2
