Key problem

Its true, if you are some distance away from the car, hold it to your head and press it, it works. Other than that how about changing the battery ?. :P

Does it happen to the spare key as well? The mirror contains the receiver by the way.

Thought Id read somewhere that the car charges the key battery - but Im probably wrong![/quote]

i aslo read the same thing! is it true??

All Z4s have it. I think it was around 2000 it was introduced.

hence the need to use the spare key once in a while, otherwise it goes flat. If you don't, you lose the key programming on that key.

yeah I used to keep my spare in a cupboard out of the way til I read that. Imagine my relief when it still worked! Now I just keep em both in the same place and just grab one.

They are good for at least 6 months unused though so not a panic to keep switching. Just give the car a long run with it then so it has time to charge up

BMW^Z4 question appears to be skipped. Has pvr's suggestion of using the other key been tested. If that elimintaes the key then I'd be after the sensor in the mirror to see if it works close by it.
