Key fob battery

I think I have read somewhere that only the dealership can open the key fob to update the battery. Needless to say $$$, Is this true, or has someone done it themselves?

Easy to do but it does require cutting open the key.
It is not too tricky to make a nice neat job of it and then glue it back together.
Basic soldering skills are required.

I just pressed a nice sharp blade through the seam around the key taking care not to insert it too far and damage the PCB. Obviously also taking care not to insert it into your fingers!

You may need to reprogram the remote locking function of the key after replacement. This is very easy, procedure to do this is available online.

Replacement batteries are only a couple of quid on ebay.

Most keys should be “recoverable” have a search for ‘key’ and ‘toothbrush charger’... seems to do the trick for most people

As kis says, it is worth trying to charge them first.
However, this often isn't a permanent solution when the batteries are potentially 15+ years old.
Replacement is the best solution if the battery has given up.
