Kerbed an alloy

Title says it all.

After a year's ownership and 4k miles without a scratch I managed to scrape the front nearside wheel while out for a little drive yesterday.

I feel sick

I feel your pain, I'm always exceptionally careful when it comes to kerbs and alloys but my record is having a new set fitted and was letting a van pass me on a tight road and for some reason I thought I will just give him a tad more room and boom, the noise of alloy on kerb makes you want to cry, they had only been on 2 weeks

It is just so easy to do. I have had Alloygators on quite a few of my cars. They work well and aren’t too unsightly if you choose your colour carefully.

Thanks guys. I feel too bad to take pics, I did think about it.

I'll get some sort of repair done once the world is back on track again.

Was it one of these - A799M Wheel ?
If so, I'd be interested to hear what a repair costs ?

Give Les at CJ powder coaters a call

They have a machine to re do the diamond cut finish little video on their web site

They have done 2 sets of wheels for me and all the blasting and powder coating of the bits that came off my car this winter

https://www.cjpowdercoatings.co.uk

They will post it back to you if it is too far to drive, also do a drive in drive out in a day if pre booked

For colour matching it is best to do at least the two that are from that side of the car

I feel your pain, that sound as the alloy scrapes against the kerb is forever etched in my head. When I bought my M40i, I decided to take out alloy insurance since I kerbed an alloy on my previous M240i not once but twice, the second time a week after just having had the alloy refurbed :headbang: . Hope you get it sorted quickly.

I feel your pain OP - we've all done it!

I just hope you can get a repair rather than a full refurb.

It depends on how badly it is damaged. I scraped my front near side alloy slightly when parking the car. Was quite annoyed with myself as I am usually very careful and keep well away from the kerb.
However, I rubbed the damage lightly with some fine wet and dry sandpaper to remove the damage and finished it off by polishing with a Cape Cod cloth that I use to polish out minor scuffs on my expensive watches. Worked a treat, almost invisible.

Ok had a look on Amazon so understand what it is , it does actually work then ?

It works on the shiny aluminium rim of the wheel after carefully rubbing down with very fine sandpaper, preferably wet. The sandpaper takes off the lacquer coating but it is not noticeable, even after a period of time. Looks much better than leaving the kerb rash on the wheel. I have done this on four other cars and from my experience it does a good job if the damage is not too deep or extensive.

If the painted part of the wheel is damaged as well as the shiny aluminium rim I would leave it to the wheel repair experts.

Makes you feel sick when it happens doesn’t it. That graunching sound of metal on kerb stone.
We’ve all done it and I’m almost obsessed by it until it’s fixed.
Hope you manage to get it sorted.

Yes a sickening feeling. Pro Alloys in Melksham are very good. They weld in new metal , re cut the wheel and powder coat for about £110 fixed price.Thats a lot for a simple job but cheap for complex Z4 alloy.
Good luck
Andy

No it's an 18 inch wheel, not as fancy as yours!

I just talked to a repairer and sent him some photos, he's getting back to me later.
