Keeping Interior Lights on When Opening Door

This hopefully doesn't sound dumb. When I get out of the car, the interior and DRL lights turn off. Most cars, including past BMW's, the lights stay on until you close the driver door and/or lock it. Is there any way to keep the lights on until you exit the car?
 
Just use the lights on the overhead console? Without coding the car will turn off lights to save battery power.
 
Hi. I think the delayed switch off can be reinitiated by pressing & holding the interior light switch for 5seconds :thumbsup:

When getting out flash the high beam stalk and the lights (hid) stay on for a couple of mins, lights home I believe.
 
Thanks guys! I fiddled this morning with both the interior light and the light stalk. When I held down the light switch, it turned all the lights off. After messing with it a little more, it at least brought the lights back on. Not sure if it did anything to reset or enable a delay when exiting the car. I'll see over the next day or so if I can mess with it. The high beam trick worked too BTW. Wish you could get that coded permanently so you don't have to pull the stalk back every time you exit.
