KDS Keltec - Paintwork and detailing (Kent)

Since the booking my car into KDS I've since got 2 other quotes. The first was from Chappel Coachworks near Brands Hatch and the second was from my trip over to Specialised Paintwork over near Reading. I have to say that Specialised were lovely people however the quote I received from them exceeded the KDS number, although they did break each part down individually.

So, I've decided to bite the bullet and stick to the KDS Keltec booking. They've got an amazing reputation and I'm expecting nothing less than stunning. And with the silver detail included in the price she should look like she's just rolled off the factory floor. Pics and updates to follow once she goes in for the work mid June.

EDIT: I may well speak to Stephen James and see what laughable estimate they can provide also. Just out of interest. Here are some before images...

One additional question. What do I do with re: cleaning the car before it goes in for the bodywork? Can I leave it filthy or is that bad form?

I think proper etiquette would be to at least give the car a very quick wash before driving it over there, primarily because IMO this shows how much you care about your car. I always make sure mine is spotless before a dealer visit, since I would like to imagine that they would be more careful with a car that the owner obviously cares about enough to keep it clean despite the fact that they usually give cars a "detail" (I use the word loosely) after any service work.

Well Ive decided to cancel my KDS Keltec appointment. Washed the car today (back with the hose, yay!) and she doesnt look half bad actually. Started thinking about it and other than the 10 inch boot key scratch the rest are not too offensive. Just cant justify spending the sterlings with a baby boy on the way.

Think I might see if I can either get it done somewhere else; maybe a call out firm such as ChipsAway.

Sorry to those awaiting the results. KDS have a fantastic reputation so I'm sure would have done an as-new job.
 
Do you mind me asking how much they were going to charge inkey$ ? Was it an offensive amount of money, or just mildly rude ?
 
Sure Bing. For full respray of boot, front end, bonnet, wings and skirts plus a silver detail package it was coming in at around £1500+vat. Place near Brands has quoted £700+vat for boot, front end and skirts.
 
That's a surprisingly rational decision coming from a car enthusiast :P

1500 pounds isn't a bad price for that amount of work, which would leave the exterior looking almost new, however it takes a strong man to prioritise responsibly.

A good wash, clay and wax always does wonders for the appearance, and blue colours (at least my Maldives blue anyway) don't seem to show swirls as badly as some other colours. I'd be very frustrated with the key scratch though and would have to do something about that or it would drive me crazy ;)

For the more obnoxious paint chips you could just do a touch up job. People seem to either love them or hate them but I've found the colour match on my BMW touch up kit to be very good. But even a not quite matched blue is going to look better than the glaringly obvious primer/white colour.

Cheers inkey$ - not too rude at all, I am impressed. I have asked a local guy to quote for my front end and bonnet, so it's great to have a benchmark, though I too have some priorities that need attending to... Not of the sprog variety I hasten to add :D

Yeah, and with the Vat it was coming in at £1800. I may change my mind yet again but for now I'm trying to do the right thing. Just know I'd feel guilty considering the amount of miles I do now, yet alone when I'm unable to drive it at all from September :cry:

Key scratch is a priority though so I'll def be getting that sorted. Time to see what those Chips Away boys can do for me. Got a man popping round later to quote.

No worries. Be good to hear back on your guys and see what the difference is.
 
As another reference point I've recently paid £1,000 for bumper, bonnet and wings to be resprayed at Cotswold BMW. Although their initial price came out at £1700 it soon came down with some negotiating.
 
Good to know dealer prices. In fact good to know recent prices and quotes in general. These things can change so quickly.
