Bit late for me as mines having CF air box and Alpha N next Friday.

Jon - how did this go, I'm tempted to do likewise - who did you go with, and who fitted?

cheers

I recently fitted a GSR box to my Z4M too, I initially cut the snorkle part, but then decided it would be better if I just redesigned it :D

Hacking up brand new carbon parts lol. Obviously you don't need to do this on an E46.

We're getting closer. Karbonius has advised that this month they hope to have the provisional mould and first prototype ready for test fitment. If that goes well, they will manufacture a high-quality mould and produce the real thing.

Thanks for the update

Karbonius has finished the prototype plenum - see the pictures below. This was straight out of the autoclave, so it hasn't been cleaned up at all. Next week they will be testing the fitting and sound. Fingers crossed!

Interesting it looks like a csl box with the maf elbow opening added on. Defo look cool and i do think it will produce more noise. Great update. Thanks

Yikes. I bought an entire z4m roadster with 40k miles for 22k euros 2 months ago.

1.2k euros or about 5% of an entire car with bmw service history for one little part seems a bit silly. As they say where there is mystery there is margin. Crazy money compared to an entire car.

if you think that’s crazy money, then don’t go to BMW for any maintenance or parts :poke:

I thought they agreed to make a replica of the stock intake box? So that it would look the same as stock but in carbon fibre.
It looks like they have done away with the stock look by eliminating the 6 conical bumps on the top for the trumpets :(
As Matt.13 says, they have started with half of the CSL box and modified the front.
It's interesting but it's not what they promised.

I was certainly hoping for an exact replica as well, but to be fair, facebook messages in what I assume is a second language for their staff is not exactly a good medium for exchanging/discussing details of the design. This approach would be more cost effective for them as well, so I can see the logic of this approach. I have asked if the final version will be one or two-piece but either way, it looks like their CSL-style filtered section will be used. An unintended consequence of this is that it may be able accept the CSL filter, meaning you wouldn't need the filter in the standard airbox. This is to be confirmed and I'm also not sure if eliminating a filter before the MAF would have any impact on the tune.

My guess is it will be a 2 piece design hopefully with carbon trumpets and a filter before the maf. Im thinking they have gone this route rather than an oem copy is to create the csl noise.

To confirm a few more details:
- the plenum will be made in two pieces together but bonded together to result in a one-piece (so no CSL air filter)
- carbon fibre trumpets will be fitted
- Karbonius opted for a flat top surface (versus the having humps like the OE plenum) as this provides a louder sound. They were also not aiming for an exact reproduction.
