Hi,

I'm looking for some help advice, I've bought the following for my 2.2L 2004 Z4 :- BMW Z4 K Sport 304mm X 28mm 6 Pot Big Brake Kit

DC performance didn't have any advice about what to do with the back plates other than mentioning that some people just cut sections out as necessary to make the Callipers fit.

Has anyone got any tips/advice on other BMW types that might have a back plate that will fit that doesn't require grinding cutting ? ... it's just not the way I like to do things

Thanks :)

Pretty sure your only option is to cut it, either for front or rear. Done well you shouldn't really notice it, and pretty sure BMW won't make different shaped stone guards for different brakes as there were no different brake options on the cars. I guess you could try using one from one of the newer cars (F10 3 series, 1 series) with the BMWPerformance 6 pot brembo calipers as they're pretty big, doubt very much they'll work though?

yeah i cut mine, its a total minor however.... they are only like 30 quid to replace, they were never designed to take the thicker rotors and larger callipers that a BBK comprises of. I do understand what you mean as it seems like a butchery job but at least the part is easily replaceable i.e its not a permanent modification to the car.

If its the rear a 330i backplate might be an option. He has to cut for the caliper, but the 330i backplate takes larger than 300mm, otherwise he has to cut the surround maybe too. The backplate needs however some adaptation around the trailing arm.... and the rear backplate is a very difficult job to replace!
So rear has more issues.

But I think this is a front bbk (although 300mm disk is pretty small for a 6 pot bbk), so the front back plate has to be cut a little. No big deal.

Thanks for all the replies guys, it's put my mind at ease , cutting it is so, I'll just do a nice clean cut and paint the bare metal with black Hammerite
:driving:
