K&N Panel filter

Oil sampling shows elevated levels of silicon with gauze filters so wear accelerates straight away..compared to a full flow filter

Was this "oil sampling" part of your exhaustive "50 dyno run" evaluation, or was it more exhaustive Googling?

Facts not opinions.

We ran a fleet of 11 aircraft with turbo diesel engines for 10 years that were all oil sampled ..we could see the direct impact of operating out of dusty places in the samples..they used K+N filters..also other aircraft that had optional filters that were oil sampled, again increased silicon on the non air filter versions. So facts..plus I oil sample my E89s.

I used this video as my guide though not scientific it makes its point across

Anything you throw in will net you the same power. You sacrifice filtration or increase sound so pick what you want because power ain't gonna be one of them

Diesel aero engines, we were more worried about gearbox failures at 200 hours and cams, was it 800 hours.
What bust the manufacturer.

The engine Thielert 1.7 was overstressed asking to make 135 BHP continuous from an early 1.7 litre Mercedes based design..

They struggled to make TBR at 1,000 hours

Frank Thielert was a con merchant..

Christian Dries Diamond owner never forgave him..

They developed the Austro based on a cast iron block Merc diesel 165BHP..pretty reliable

The later Thielert 2.0 sorted things out ..135BHP and 155BHP

We used all 4 permutations across 11 DA42s

42's were constantly coming back from IR details with one engine in safe mode.
We had one PA28 conversion go to Qatar!

Someone had better get on to K&N quick to give them the benefit of Peter's wisdom.

I am sure they will shut up shop tomorrow, once they realise what they have been doing wrong all these years.
