I've had K&Ns in pretty much every car I've owned, from 57is to plain old panel filters, and on looking to replace the cars dirty old OEM filter and hopefully add a little more growl, I've discovered three options available...

K&N http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390124812493?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 - £38 posted

Green http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330881508429?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 - £54 posted

Pipercross http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360610206049?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 - £36 posted

...and no, I'm not asking should I get one, and oh no MAF failure from oiled filters - blah blah blah. but which one have YOU fitted :)

(I'd love an AFE but can't stretch to one yet.)

I've had most of them at some time in the past (plus RamAir), but only when I've replaced the intake for something louder.

A filter by itself in the standard airbox will rarely give you any performance/noise increase - and anything you do feel/hear is all in the mind :P

Think you may be quite correct! Might look for a spare airbox and have a fiddle drilling it - that was the first and best mod I did on my Fiat Coupe 20VT back in 1998!

Have you got a link to the Ram Air?

The advantage of say a K&N style filter is that in the long run it may save you money...

But i'd say a new clean paper filter will perform better... And i had issues with a clogged maf on my previous cars where i fitted a K&N filter... So staying with a paper one in my Z.

Not had one on my Z4M, but had a big foam one on the Corrado at one point - must have been about 12" diameter cylinder of foam :P

Here's the link to a Z4 one.

There are 3 variations (all around the £60-£80 mark) - although I'm not recommending anything, just supplying information:

Interesting... but I suppose you need a heat shield as well?

I have a K&N fitted and quite happy with the sound of it, but of course more is always better ;-)

An Afe with RPI air scoop probably sounds great

check out the thread about after market filters on the the ///M section
