K&N filter

Tryed to look true old post....

I have purchased i K&N filter, Total Waste or does it do ennything.. I dont expect enny HP gains, maybee som trottle respons or sound.

Pretty large consensus that agrees your money would have been spent better replacing the standard paper filter more often.

You might, just might, if you are super sensitive, pick up on the miniscule amount of improved throttle response. BTW, did I mention that you would need to be super sensitive to do this?

Simply replacing the standard paper filter with a K&N wont make any meaningful improvement to performance as all the engines parameters are set around precise amounts or air being inducted into the engine. If these parameters ie the amount of fuel etc arent changed to match the potential extra airflow you wont see much if any improvement. High Flow airfilters really come into there own when you tune the engine for example by remapping the ECU of turbo charged cars etc ie when you do something to allow the engine to draw in more fuel air mixture. If you have a 20i for example you would see much greater gains in performance from an ECU remap but then you get into the whole controversy of whether this poses a risk to reliability etc

With a K&N you are reducing the resistance of the filtration - Thus more air. The fuel injection will work with the air its receiving - and meter accordingly. So letting the engine breath better you will pick up on that but it would be really small differences and I think it wouldnt be felt. Older cars when you removed the air filter gubbins and added a K&N it usually sounded better as you were taking off some of the muffling and letting the induction sound out.

If it sounded better you usually felt that it went better...... lol

Thx for the reply!
The filter is now changed, I noticed a lot of debree inside the air intake! in might have run over a bird, Because it was a lot off fethers inside the filter Chamber.
So changing the filter was good ennyway =)

Those filters are garbage. Not because they are a waste of money, but because they are soaked in oil that can ruin your mass air flow sensor and cause CEL issues.

Don't feel bad though, I bought one once upon a time. Right of passage.

Yep think we all bought one once -

I have a rather nice 1.4s Fiesta that had a carb swap with a k&N fitted. Rejetted and then 4-2-1 exhaust along with an RS rocker cover. Looked pretty sweet and drove sweet aswell - could catch the odd sleeping XR2 ;-)

Induction roar increased aswell.

As you have pointed out the oil that these have in the paper can cause some serious with the air metering.
