K&N air filters

As a newbie, apologies if this has been covered before but I am about to do a full service on this car and wonder whether anyone has fitted the K&N airfilter and what results resulted ie is it worth the extra money over the standard filter. Thanks

I have a BMC air filter, already fitted when I bought the car. Same principle as K&N though. It needs cleaned and re-oiled every 15k miles, and when I swap the OEM filter in there is no change to performance that is discernible to me. However it sounds nicer with the BMC filter in, in combo with the RPI scoop I also have.

Personally, if I had it stock when I got it, I'd have left it stock, maybe got a scoop, but held out until I could afford something like an Eventuri or Gruppe M intake. Much aural pleasure, and (allegedly) real performance gains.

There really is no point. A generic air filter costs about a quarter of the price of a k&n, so only get an k&n if you're going to keep the car longer than it'd take to replace one 4 times.

You also have the cleaning procedure aswell. More effort than I can be bothered with.

Yeah, the cleaning procedure is a real drag. And if you don't wait until it's dry enough before refitting it can cause problems.i have no more cleaner left, so I'll probably swap it back out permanently when it next needs cleaned.

I just cleaned my MAF after a fault code came up, it was full of yellow horrible grease - probably years of K&N etc.
New oem filter.
No engine light since!
