The place that done it (Simons Custom Exhausts) posted this pic on their Facebook page, done a nice job and it will be very easy to change in the future if need be.

Total crap sounds like the backbox is blowing against the ground,awful.
 
In Bellshill mate are u in EK? Well put it this way my dad has a partially de-catted merc c63 amg and it makes that seem sensible lol! It might need some future modding to get it just right, the only bit about it that's annoying is how loud it is low down, once your moving it sounds incredible though :evil:

Aye I've had work done by him before on my Mini and always great to deal with and quality work. I've no idea how I could calm down the low end apart from maybe 2 small mufflers but then I don't want to lose any performance from stock...
 
cant imagine that sounding too nice at all...... that will piss you off very quickly, the RPI is essentially the same with some slightly larger pipework and a proper resonator... and they are incredibly annoying.... i'll give you 6 months of use before you give up!! :poke: :poke: :poke: :poke:
 
I've now got the stock boxes and bypass pipes so I could always do that but the whole point of this was so I didn't need to do anything irreversible to them. Plus I don't think I could go back to the standard tips after seeing it with these 8) who knows what I'll end up doing, I won't give up! But I may customise further :P

After making the exhaust more free-flowing by removing the silencers (down-stream flow) you may already have lost performance unless you have increased the upstream flow at the air-intake end. Unless you've done ECU data-logging of the situation before you've removed the OEM silencers then you can have no idea what has happened to performance. You may have lost performance, but you certainly won't have improved it.

Exhaust shops really should explain this to people before doing such work, but then again I guess they'd be doing themselves out of a lot of jobs!
 
I was actually told it would gain power, I always thought less restriction=more power but obviously not, what if I combined it with an improved intake and had it remapped? That surely can't still lose power? :?
 
tidy job of fittinh nthere, think too you may soon get fed up with the boy racer sound, at least you don't have to keep yr back boxes polished any more :thumbsup:

Of course you'd be told that you'd gain power, especially by the exhaust supplier. I've been messing around with air-intakes and exhausts for the Z3MC and Z4MC for about 8 years or so, mostly aided by an ECU datalogger and I've posted lots of information about this on this forum: do a search. I've often been surprised by the results of datalogging, which doesn't lie.

What's your idea of an improved intake and why do you think that the OEM mapping can't cope with changes to intakes and exhausts and that a remap will be better? Unless you go with Forced Induction (supercharged or turbocharged) the OEM maps can cope with everything that you throw at it.
 
Well should everything go to plan I was hoping to get the ESS 525 supercharger next year or at latest 2 years time but in the nearer future I was meaning gruppeM or similar.

So the OEM maps automatically adjust to any mods done apart from forced induction?

Yes. Think about it: the maps need to be able to allow the car to operate in Scandanavia in deepest winter, in North Africa or Asia in the heat of summer, as well as at altitude or sea level, and in temperate or tropical climates. As such, the maps need to adjust fuelling to accommodate the airflow that occurs irrespective of air temperature, pressure and humidity. Therefore, if you make modifications to the intake/exhaust whilst the car is still operating in Normally Aspirating guise, whatever you do will still mean that airflow remains within the wide parameters that the ECU maps can cope with. Once the ECU has calculated the Mass Air Flow, the appropriate amount of fuel is added dependent upon engine load etc. If your modded intake/exhaust can replicate the same amount of air that you can get naturally at Sea Level, in deepest winter when High Pressure conditions prevail (i.e. densest charge), then your car's ECU will cope and it will have a little bit of leeway to spare! :thumbsup:
 
would love to hear this in action and in person, if it's as easy as it sounds to reverse it I'd love to try it on mine for a while...
