Just traded in for a z4

Yup new guy here, Just traded in for one. wanted to upgrade to something a little more "mature" and something nice to work towards.
Its a 2.5i, 2003, coming up on 72k miles.
had a prepurchase inspection on it from a family friend bmw "guru" hah. and was just a few maint. work to be done.
had it for about a week now and have done a fresh oil change, air filter, wipers, brake fluid, and have both my belts, aux fan switch for lower rad hose, and thermo housing seal.
to do when i have off, then alls thats left is replace a control arm bushing(ill just do both sides) and a rear tranny seal, which i need to call the guy back and see if it was the actual rear seal or if it was output shaft seal. and then its up to speed :)

there is just one question I had on this car though. now im pretty good with manual and been driving manual since i was 8 y/o, but not sure if this engine/tranny is sensitive to certain rpm ranges or what, but pretty much lets say im in first or second and start rolling around in 2-2.5k rpm in either gear and i push down all the way, it jutters then light comes on and idles rough, but if i turn car off and immediately back on its as if nothing happens, but if i do same scenario and dont push down as hard as "kind of" ease up to higher rpms it doesnt do it.

I can repost this in another area if needed, just thought i would go ahead and ask in here. not sure how long the guy before me went uncheck with the tranny seal needed to be replaced but the family friend just said its a tiny start up leak where the seal is so, wasnt sure if it was just the new seal and tranny oil it needed, or if its something like a clutch/injectors/coil? and yes yes i know i need to have it happen again so i can get it scanned for codes, but its just harder because it goes away after car is turned off then back on. just wanted to see what popped up in

What light is it that comes on?

Welcome!

I had the exact same thing on my a3, it was an ignition coil. Buy an obd connector off eBay and plug it in, it'll tell you the problem in no time

its the three words that say "check engine" or w/e that come on if the engine sputters hard enough if i rev too fast or anything like that.
i just tested it again today when I changed the belts and aux fan sensor. and it does it during fast revs at idle and at any rpm if "gunned" fast enough.

hmm coils eh. ill have to check into that, ill have to find someone with a scanner or tell the auto dude to hold on while i make the code pop up haha.

Thanks for the welcome! Def. been enjoying it the car though :D

Pretty certain it's the coil. The computer will record historic error codes. Good luck

Well finally got it figured out, so I went ahead and changed all the plugs and that helped it greatly but still had the jutter and checked each coil individually by popping off the connectors one at a time and each made it bog so i thought the coils were all good but still wondered if one was going bad maybe, researched to check the condition of the DISA valve, so i checked that barely had any give if any to it, but did make the popping sound that a guy in a video said was bad, so i considered that. then drove to autozone and had a guy plug in scanner, nothing was saved on the car, so i said one second and gunned it real fast to cause it to jutter then pop the code and sure enough it was coil 2 misfire
