Just Taken Delivery of my Z4 M40i

Got another stone strapped in my front driver side brake disc today. Second time this week and I only got the car 6 days ago. Seems to be a design problem as the same thing happened to the only other M40i car sold by my local dealer. Not something you can fix without a car jack to take the wheel off. Not a good start to ownership of this car.

I have been driving on main roads, not back roads or dirt tracks where you might expect problems like this. Not good.
 :headbang:

Had the same happen to mine today, sounded terrible! Is it worth taking it back to the dealers? Definitely seems like it may be a design flaw...

The Service Manager at my local dealer told me today when I took the car in for the second time in 3 days that there is no fix for the problem. Clearly there is a design issue that BMW should be addressing. Only two M40i's have been sold by my dealer and both have had the same issue and now you are experiencing it as well. When I was there today I asked the SM to feed back the problem to BMW as this is not acceptable and they should be coming up with some solution. I will let you know if he comes back with anything.
I think you should also ask your SM to feed the issue back to BMW for a solution as it is clearly a design fault on this model. I am also hearing from others on the forum that this is a known problem on the M2, M3 and M4 as well.

No, Air Scarf is a Mercedes thing. It comes with heated seats and Comfort Pack includes heated steering wheel.
:D :driving:

... And Audi A5 cabrios (if specced) very nice feature too - Air Scarves

BMW 4 series convertibles can be specced with it,
is it not an option on the new Z??

Saw one at the local dealers last week and think it much nicer in the flesh , but not so sure with the roof up. The interior looks like it’s step up again

Well, actually now I look at the threads my M2-owning friend was talking about, it seems the problem was to do with stones getting stuck between the rear dust shield and the brake rotor. Reversing and braking hard to try and free them may still work for you, as might bending back the dust shield (which is the fix/hack in the case of the M4 rears).

Thanks for your help MrPT. Might give that a try if the problem persists. I have had one rear and one front brake disc stone problem, so it seems that it can happen on any wheel.
