Just saying hi

Hi,

I've been lurking on the forum for a while whilst trying to sell my other car. That has now been sold so looking to join the Z4 ranks.

I'm in Congresbury, North Somerset and I've finally narrowed down my vehicle search to an E86 auto.
So if anyone has one, preferably 'relatively' low mileage, please let me know.

Just for interest the car I've just sold was a Maserati 4200, pic attached hopefully, but now only need a 2 seater and the E86 fits the bill I think.

Look forward to contributing to this busy forum.
Cheers,
Andy.

Hi and welcome to the forum Andy.

Your Maserati looks lovely - I hope you don't miss it too much!

Anyway good luck finding your E86.

Thanks for the welcome.

It was a bit of a wrench selling the Maserati, especially as I did a lot of work on it to bring it up to scratch (changing the timing chain and guides on a quad cam V8 was interesting 😳)

Hopefully a suitable coupe will turn up and fill the void!

Welcome to the forum. Not only is the E86 Z4 coupe a sublime car, it is also (mostly) pretty easy to work on. And although it’s 100hp down on your Maserati, you won’t lose a huge amount in performance terms. What's not to like?

Easy to work on was one of the things that attracted me to them. That along with the fantastic looks.
The maserati had 400bhp so an E86 is a bit down in power but it's a lot lighter. I reckon cross country an E86 would easily keep up with it.

Hi and welcome to the forum! Hope you can find the perfect e86 for you.

Thanks everyone, the Maserati was great but 15mpg (20mpg if driving like a granny) can sting a bit.
The fact that the N52 engine can regularly achieve 30mpg ish and yet still go well and sound fantastic really appeals.
Hopefully after Xmas something may turn up.

Maserati 4200

Welcome Andy . Love the sound of a Maserati . The auto box in the E86 is more than capable . Good choice

Yes 15mpg isn't great but the sound was immense.
Anyhow, thanks for the further welcome. Glad to hear the auto box is good, I guess you can always apply the xhp remap if required.

Hopefully the right one for me will turn up soon.

Welcome to the forum Andy, I seem to remember there were 2 blue 86 auto’s for sale recently (in the last 6 weeks). I remember them as they were the same colour as mine, montego blue. About £9.5k

There are quite a few Z’s in the west country, I am near Bridgwater

Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave,
I don't suppose you remember where they were advertised do you? Obviously trying to keep an eye on the usual places, Autotrader, ebay etc.

Thanks.

It was on a facebook group ‘bmw z4 e86 coupe’ and was for sale by a guy called Peter Griffiths

Let me know if you need more help, i still have it my saved items

Dave

It does look nice but was hoping for slightly lower mileage. May investigate though.

FWIW I wouldn't worry too much about mileage on the N52 engine as they seem pretty robust.

I've got my 4th one now in a 330i that has done 124K miles and still pulls smoothly and strongly to the red-line when there is an open road!

Based on a detailed database compiled by a forum member only 593 Auto Coupes were registered in the UK so you might need to be open to compromise, but good luck anyway.

Just found it, thanks.

Thank you.

Mine is a manual and has done 113,000 and i’m not sure i could tell the difference with one that has done 70,000, the only downside if the resale value when you come to sell it, but then you’ll pay less when you buy it, swings and all that
