Just Replaced RFT with Falken 452's

After a week running my newly purchased S/H 2.5l Z4 I have felt the RFT's were letting it down somewhat. After finding this forum I found many threads on this issue. So today after much research, mainly on this forum and a few others I decided to change to non RFT's. Falken 452's to be precise. At a cost of £540 inc. tax, fitting and alignment. I asked for 33 PSI on the rear and 31 PSI on the front (I got this idea from this forum). I am off to the South Downs with my GF for a few days with the Zed. I am looking forward to seeing how they perform and feel compared to the Bridgestone RFT's. If any are interested I will post my thoughts next week. Initial thoughts are that they look good on my 18's.

I found the ride a bit to turbulent at speed on the RFT's / before. I will let you know if this has changed with the 452's. I do hope so as it was not small change to pay out on a new purchase.

I am looking forward to some country lanes with the top down though :-)

You won't be disappointed, had Falkens on my Roadster and now on my Coupe
What back up have you got, compressor and tyre weld.
Have a good trip

I bought a can of Tyre Weld. Do you suggest a compressor as well? I am never more than 10 mins from a Petrol garage to be honest. It is not the price but more the size of it in my boot. I will get one if it is suggested by other forum members with experience. What do you think RedZedfour? Thanks

I've got a Ring RAC 600 which sits in the gap next to the battery so does'nt take up any boot space

I will get one. Thanks for the tip. Hopefully will never need it but you never know. I had a blow out at speed on my Alfa which was pretty scary but did not crash (thank god). That was because the tyre had a fault and I would have found it if I had checked them every now and again. Lessons learnt!

If you get two tins of Holts tyre weld they fit nicely in a standard BMW oil bag (less than £5 on fleabay) and then velco out the way

I just thought I would post my immediate thoughts on my new Non RFT's. Falken 452's. After driving around the South Downs at the weekend and doing 200 miles on the motorway I am a very happy. Firstly the motorway drive was much more pleasurable. The car stuck to the road better and was much smoother. My girlfriend who I share the car with said it was more comfortable as a passenger and I felt like I was gripping the steering wheel much less. The car seemed to follow the steering wheel more and small changes in the road were less noticeable. Driving around country lanes the car seemed to grip better although I cannot compare it to brand new RFT's. Cornering was good and the Falkens just kept on sticking to the road. The car now corners as I thought it ought to. It actually ( and my gf agrees) feels like a different / better car. Well worth the money spent. Tyres are not that sexy a thing to spend your money on but me and my girlfriend are very very happy.

Are the Falken any quieter at speed eg on a motorway?

Is the ride less harsh? With RFT I han feel every bump and small pothole :(

Thanks

We did not notice a difference in road noise to be honest. I did not have an issue with that. It definately was not any louder. It was a much more smoother ride. Potholes and bumps were less noticeable. A much more pleasureable ride for both driver and passenger. I would recommend the change 100 percent. :)

Is it possible to go up a profile size and make them more comfortable still? The speedo would be off by a fraction, but anyone had experience with doing this?

No surprise whatsoever in what you note re the change to Falkens. On my second set now.

Nicollow - don't even think about screwing around with relative profile sizes. Speedo, gearing, performance, possible void insurance, etc.

All I can say is that I am happy with the 452's on 18's. I am onto my next upgrade thoughts - Aux in with Alpine 400w Amp and 2 6x9" speakers mounted behind the seat.

Ive just done the same with the falken 452's and the difference is astonishing. Got my set on the internet ctyres.co.uk for £475 inc fitting balancing etc. gr8 website for all tyres....
