just replaced headlight bulb but discovered something bad...

ok so my headlight went so i had to replace the passenger side.... i used a guide off here and it was pretty straight forward..... had a little trouble getting the wheel arch access panel open but that turned out to be because whoever did it before didn't put it back properly (the was a section slotted inside the arch trim not flush up against it) once i got that off i also noticed the headlight back cover hadn't been "located" back properly (the wire securing piece hadn't been pulled over keeping it tight.... so that explains the fogged up headlight...... no problem, will dry out and reseal at another date now i know how easy it all is..)

now the bad part... i noticed the outer edge of the wheel arch trim is heavily worn (looks like tyre wear even tho there is plenty of clearance from the 18" wheels???) so i want to know if i can replace the inside wheel trim and how much of a job it is (cant find anything from searching)

NOW THE REALLY BAD PART :headbang: ...... i decided to check the drivers side so i could compare the worn section...... there is NO inside wheel arch trim on the drivers side :o so im really worried now that any water is going to go everywhere where it shouldnt?!?!?!

i have some pics and will upload shortly, has anybody had anything similar or knows where to get replacement wheelarch trims etc??

It looks as though you need replacement inner wheel arch trim, part no. 51717012727 and 51717012728.
Found under the oem diags under 41 BODYWORK - 41.10 BODY - FRONT BODY (anyway for a 2004 Roadster)
I suspect its not the easiest of jobs to install. Best of luck.

i hope this is true..... i was a little worried at all the rivet type fixing around the edge, how easy is a "doddle" ? im fairly confident in my ability with most things as im pretty good with hands on stuff...
 
just to clarify.... the inner wheel arch trim/splash guard is the same for all the z4s from 2004-2008 ???

if so im gonna start the hunt as dont fancy any damage being caused in the mean time :(
 
I replaced my near side front and once you get the wheel off its pretty straight forward,however it did cost me over £90 from BMW.I have seen a few secondhand ones on EBay recently so have a look there first.
 
yea ive spoken to a few breakers on ebay and pretty sure i can get a decent condition replacement for about £40 delivered which isnt as bad as i 1st thought..... if any body knows of anywhere or has a spare themselves for any reason please feel free to let me know :D
 
Try and find one at a breakers. The Plastic clips are on Ebay.
You just knock the centre pin through with a small punch or nail with the clips and pick the plastic pins up later as they fall into the arch or on the floor probably in your case.
You can reuse if serviceable, best to get some spares though.

do i just remove/break out the old 1`s and then just order a fresh bag of plastic rivets and click/snap them all into place? anything else i would need?

i get ya, will try contacting some local breakers tomorrow and look for some spare plastic rivets aswell :thumbsup:

The inside of your wing looks slightly bent, I'm guessing it's had either a slight knock on a kerb or something like that.

which part looks bent? if u mean the lower part then its actually the black plastic that gives the effect of it being bent inwards on these pics.
 
I had to replace my drivers side wheel arch after a foreign object went through my brake duct vent and wiped out half the plastic liner.

I went for new and it cost about 70 quid. Fitting was ok, if a bit fiddly as theres a couple of bolts in hard to reach areas.
 
i defo need to replace my drivers side as half the bottom section is missing at the front (assume the same as you... something gone through air duct and smashed/snapped it off as whats left looks pretty brittle) but the passenger side as you can see from the pics looks worn around the edge.. nothing major and could probly be left or just patched up but i will feel more reassured if I just replaced both so will be contacting local breakers and crossing my fingers they have a Z in thats been shunted from behind :thumbsup:
 
Easy fixed, and with spirited driving even on 18s and standard suspension you can get rubbing on the edges. There's some on the driver's side of my car and it's completely standard. On my last one, lowered and with spacers, I'd worn a hole in the driver side and carried a roll of duct tape to patch it up from time to time :oops:

Just don't be tempted to buy the pattern part ones on eBay, i.e. not genuine - I don't know from personal experience, but I have heard that they are not a great fit.
 
well to save costs for the time being then i might go for an original BMW drivers side arch online (if i cant find an original part from breakers) and a roll of black duct tape to cover the worn part in the passengers side for the time being then :thumbsup: thanks for your suggestion Bing :driving:

Im sure once ive done drivers side and got xmas/winter out the way ill replace the passengers side aswell :D
 
quick question, are the inner arch trims the same for roadsters and coupe models?? (im guessing yes but want to make sure)
