Just not my bloody week, and it's only Monday!

Birkenhead tunnel is far to narrow for the traffic that uses it , its borderline scary sometimes .

Yup had the sh*t scared out of me a few times. I always (as you did) hang back on the busses. Then you get an arsehole behind you tailgating :-( Another problem seems to be the left turn onto the dock road spur.

Sorry but I wouldn't have tried to go on his inside with lanes that narrow, it may be the camera angle. He was ahead of you as you got to the kerb so had control of the lanes. The bus looks to be the same width as the lanes, so he has nowhere to go. I drive a large tanker now and then and these vehicles do wonder around a bit. To be honest, I wouldn't have attempted that maneuver in that tunnel :|

Have to admit that was my first thought, going for a gap that really isn't there.

Totally empathise and feel your pain. Your quick thinking mitigated any further damage. Looks like the bus driver never even knew of your existence. Horrible when this type of thing happens. Glad you have a dashcam!

Hope you're not too shook up and hope the dame gets sorted without too much pain.

Cheers Arif :D

That left turn needs to start about 50 metres before it does with a slip road , you almost need a swing at it ! Wife works in the liver building so she uses the tunnels both days and never bats an eyelid where as I cringe every time I go through .

Rubbish that you damaged your Zed, But you where behind the bus trying to undertake, before the solid white line started, that was asking for trouble, IMHO. The bus had every right to be where it was on the road, at that point. Once the solid white line starts the bus should stay in it's lane. Agree his driving was poor and too fast. Hope you get it sorted quickly.

What a pain, don't think he saw you there. :(
I must admit I think I would have hung back, but hindsight (and dashcams) are wonderful things.
Hope there wasn't too much damage.
Cheers, Dave

Given the size of those lanes buses shouldn't be in that tunnel - as someone who has never driven that tunnel I wouldn't have expected him to be swaying over to my lane - especially at the entrance. He should have made it clear with signalling he was going into the first lane, even if only a small bit. Sorry to hear about your damage...but it could have been a lot worse.

I think it would be interesting to know just how many "incidents" involving buses there have been over the years.. I wonder if a "FOI request" would cover it?? :)

And, the other time WAS at the cash & carry, where - believe it or not, I was the victim of, in the police's terms "A racially motivated public order offence" TBH, it was hillarious, and when I get a mo, I may post the details.... :)
