just made an air ram scoop. now with pics

just wanted to tell u guys what ive been up to today as i always start a car project when the sun comes out

was really board last night and after seeing the RPI scoop thought i would spend an hour fashioning one of my own to see if it works ( its only a piece of metal with some bends so wasn't hard and its pretty difficult to see so wasnt bothered how it looks. used the original push screw thing and put in one self tapping screw in the same place as the RPI one and its the same size but mine is a continuous curve which i think is better. its fitted and im quite impressed for a simple mod. gives the engine more of a rasp and it feels more responsive over 30mph with the original filter in place. hoping for even more when i get a better filter

il get some pictures up later as its too bright at the minute to get a shot and i need to take it out again as it needs the edges cleaned up and i want it sprayed black

im spraying it black as we speak after i went on a 50 mile roadtrip with the roof down. what a lovely day. give me an hour
 
right guys, here is the results. cant even see it behind the black grill in normal light which is exactly what i wanted

these pictures dont show the curve that well but it does bend a canny bit
if anyone is interested in the design then let me know.
 
This could actually do something, collecting cold air ahead of the rad and engine bay, plus a bit of ram effect at speed, a dyno' test and fan are called for :)

Oh cripes I'm discussing mod's :oops:

i went black as i ain't telling the insurance about it, and its almost invisible now. what would i tell then anyway, "ive stuck a piece of plastic under the hood which cost me a can of spraypaint. so do u fancy putting my insurance up plz"
 
i tried a piece of tin but couldn't get the bends with the tools i had. was super easy with a sheet of plastic and a hot air gun. also allowed me to weld a bit on which i missed off. i still have the template i think which was flat. only requires 2 bends but getting the curve and twist is difficult with metal as i wanted the air to flow in, not hit a wall and tumble in
 
The fitting angle does not look right.

The RPI is closer to the front:
