Just looking.

I went into my local dealer to get my 35is in for its MOT and they had Frozen Grey M40i - I have made some very tentative enquiries - But basically its going to be £38k to change - Im not really sure if I would get £38k's worth of extra joy out of it?

My current car is now six years old but has only just over 16k on the clock and is very well specced - My mind is spinning again!

It was - peanuts offered for mine of course!
I’m sure mine would be offered as low miles , one owner, superbly equipped etc etc and attract a premium price!

I’m already talking myself out of it (aka coming to my senses)

They are offering me a test drive in a 69 reg car to try and hook me - it’s very unlikely to have that effect as poo brown upholstery doesn’t compliment the Red bodywork it just clashes.

I suspect that mine would sell for much more in a bmw Showroom give Nanu‘s recent experience.

I'd want an M40i to feel so much more special than a 35is to make we willing to spend another £38K, and as good as the G29 may be I doubt it would feel 3 times as good!

And in another 6 years the M40i would probably only be worth about what the 35is is now.

Just spend some money on petrol enjoying the 35is more - it's barely run-in at 16K miles!

All the above makes perfect sense and I’ve given my head a bloody good shake! There’s absolutely nothing wrong with mine whatsoever and the extra toys I would get aren’t worth £38k

What was annoying, was when he presented the price to change, all the add ons had been included, mats, wheel insurance, service plan etc etc - it’s always been offered afterwards. I can only assume that they are high commission products?

I will cancel tomorrows test drive- I’ve driven the m40i so I know what they’re like and I don’t want any further temptation

As a footnote - I’ve been looking for cars identical to mine it determine dealer selling price - there’s a car
at a BMW Dealer in Wolverhampton with 5k more miles and four previous owners and they are asking £29,490
They can’t really boast any dealer benefits as mine also has a BMW warranty!

I guess it depends on how long you realistically expect to drive for Ronk, at 16k miles in what, 6 years means no it probably isn't worth it based on that given how nice your 35is is. That's Mr sensible head.

On the other hand shrouds and pockets, that constant niggle in your head....do it...! Worked all your life etc, :poke: :driving: :driving:

Just tell them their deal is derisory and you are cancelling the test drive unless they are willing to be realistic.

I don’t think I would be able to get £38k of additional joy!

Sensible heads are winning!

I will just have to buy another toy.

I should have done it last year when it was circa £25k to change!
But there was no cast iron 100% guarantees of a car - First world problems!

If my car was a heap maybe I would consider a change. but it’s not - and even in another five years time it will still probably be a sub 40k car that will sell!

Yours should command at least £23.5k minimum and they would sell it for at least £29.5k
You are aware of how low a price Vertu offered for mine and I walked away and will never darken their doors again.

I remember that episode- they have tried the same stunt with me before

As I posted earlier - there’s a bmw offering in Wolverhampton £29.5k more miles 4x more owners
They would sell mine with a fanfare and ask a fortune for it!
One owner low miles excellent history no expense spared - I can see their advertisement now!!!!

It’s not going to happen - I’ve got my sensible head on again.

What didn’t impress me was how they attempted to bump up the price with the add ons.

The sneaky of sneaky being the Anniversary badges - they were on the car in the showroom but we’re certainly not a freebie! From memory here £300 I think - I don’t particularly like them either!

Ron, doesn't have to be an M40i. The 20 and 30 models are virtually the same as the 40 (seats, trim, tech etc) it's really just the 2l or 3l engine that's different. Oh and frozen paint :D

Could save a bob or two.

I can’t foresee a time when my annual mileage will rise much above 4K - so maybe watch out for the For Sale advertisement circa 2027

“2016 35is - One owner 36,000 mile”

Make a note in your dIary!

Look, I think the m40i is a better car in every measure. That’s my opinion and isn’t shared by all. I had a 35is and I wouldn’t go back to it from my m40i.
However, 38k trade up seem really high.

Life is short. Drive the car, if you like it, but it, but sell your car elsewhere. Maybe even check what webuyanycar will offer you?
Maybe sell on the forum!
