Hi,

Just joined the forum as I have just started the search for a Z4 Roadster with a 6cylinder engine. Is there anything I should look out for?

Kind regards

Gregs

Welcome- the prefacelift 6cyl M54 engines tend to be very reliable- DISA valve can be problematic. The facelift n52 are still strong but have water pump issues so check that’s been done. Roof motors can fail if allowed to sit in water so pour a glass of water over the roof behind each door to check it runs away and eventually put the bottom of the car if you can.

Generally these are reliable cars. Good luck with the search and post any card you are considering- I’m sure you will get lots of advise on them.

Welcome to the forum :) Have you got a model n mind? A rough budget cost would help folk point you in the right direction.

Considering a 3.0l with m sport seats, manual. Budget up to 5-10k depending on the car. These are my initial thoughts.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Your budget is quite wide, so you might as well focus on 3 litre ones.

As others have said pre-facelift ones with the M54 engine are pretty bullet-proof, but plenty of facelifts with the N52 engine have done over 150K miles with no major issues.

OK with the facelift you are risking the N52 electric water pump issue (the part alone is around £250) but you do get another 30+ bhp, and if you do need a new pump you'll probably never need another as they seem to last 8 to 10 years.

Good luck finding the right one, and don't forget the photos!

Welcome, in the grand scheme of things the 3.0 zeds (both pre and post facelift) are pretty reliable and and although they do have their common faults there's generally nothing that's mega expensive to fix. I guess the general advice of make sure everything works, no warning lights or funny noises and it drives right applies
